Who are the top 5 best boxers, but have the least amount of fan following? Try to focus on established boxers, not guys who are still prospects, and simply haven't had the chance for exposure.

1.) Bradley. Can't draw flies to shyt. . . Even in his home town/home area. . . maybe had 1500k fans, and prolly 300-500 tickets were either given away, or purchased with some type of "buy this, get a ticket" type deal.

2.) Martinez. When Williams/Pavlik fell apart, they had to move Williams/Martinez to the smaller arena @ Boardwalk Hall. Williams rematch, despite the crazy hype, didn't have more than 5k fans. Matthew Macklin had more fans in attendance, by a decent margin, and he'd NEVER fought in USA before (Sergio just had a pocket of about 100 fans from Argentina it looked like). Has no power at the negotiating table against Chavez, despite being 10x more proven. He's more popular than some of the following boxers, but to be ranked the 3rd - 7th pound for pound boxer (depending on who you ask), it's pretty pathetic. . .

3.) Paul Williams. . . Despite being known as one of the most exciting boxers, who has been fighting on HBO/Showtime for 4 years, he still can't draw. . .

4.) Chad Dawson. . . Like Bradley, even in his home town area, he can't draw flies to shyt. . . It's pretty bad when you're a top 5-8 pound for pounder, and by far the recognized number one 175'er (at the time), yet he has to travel to Pascal's backyard to fight.

5.) Gamboa. CRAZY talent, yet can't draw like you'd expect. . . Although we haven't seen him have the chance to headline a show in his backyard. . I think he actually might be able to bring in 5k+ if headlining a show in Miami. . Especially after all the controversy.

Guys who could find themselves here:

Andre Dirrell - I was at his fight with Abraham @ Joe Louis arena in Detroit, and it pissed me off to see about 1/3 of the arena empty. . Still prolly had 3ishk in so in attendance. . . Better than Bradley, Dawson, and Williams, but with the hype of the S6, and Detroit having a boxing history, AND being 45 minutes from his hometown, I'd figure it'd be damn near sold out.

Adrien Broner - he appears to actually have a solid fan base in Cincinnati. . It looked like he had a decent sized crowd cheering him on when he fought in Cincy. . . Then in The Lou, he had some nice support.

Devon Alexander - While he can sell out 10k in his hometown, I doubt he's anywhere close to being able to do those numbers headlining a show in Vegas, MSG, California, or Boardwalk Hall. . . PPV is out of the question.

Andre Ward - Like Alexander, he sells pretty decently regionally - looked like he had around 5k for his fights against Kessler, Bika, and Green.

Antonio Tarver - we'll see how well he sells against Kayode.

    James Kirkland. . .

JMM's two previous (Katsidis, Diaz) before Pac sold less than 4000 tickets, if I remember right.

Really? Who were his last two fights before Pac? Was it Katsidis, and Diaz?

    That's a DAMN shame if so. . .

I figured he was pretty popular being the best active Mexican fighter, his history with Pac, and his revamped style as of 2008. . .

It looked like he was the "crowd favorite" against Pac in Vegas.

Andre Ward will be the epitomy of this. Brilliant skills but there's no spark there. No unique selling point, he lacks KO power so he'd need to find a way to market himself, and the choir boy act doesn't work.

Hopkins was near the top of this list a few years back, along with Winky Wright. Shane Mosley never drew that well either back in the day.

Alexander and Bradley had their chance to build their fan bases, and put on one of the worst fights I ever saw.

It's going to be Ward, unfortunately. No one wants to see him fight, and everyone else in his division is a bigger draw.

marquez never really got much love from mexican fans being that he had a counterpunchers style, fans loved Morales and Barrerra much more.

On the gamboa note, this guy is already acting like a diva and unless he steps it up and takes the big fights he will never get that much of a fanbase.

It seems like nowadays all you need is knockouts, if sergio keeps knocking guys out in spectacular fashion he should do well.

None of those guys with the exception of Tarver has any kind of personality that stands out. I guess the reason why Tarver cant draw a crowd is because he peaked late in his career and was inconsistent by losing to Johnson and Hopkins.

Tarver has never had a real solid promoter behind him, and the Rocky fight seemed like a great PR move but the weight gain hurt him really and he lost to Hopkins next, nullifying all his good work.

Rigondeaux is an amazing boxing technician, yet has a crazy small following. Granted, he's only fought as a pro like 9 times, but he now holds a title belt, so you'd think people would pay attention to this rarity. But again, his style is not 'spectacular' and 'exciting' so no one tunes in. But count me as one of his few fans.

Ward and Hopkins come to mind.

Hopkins can sell if his opponent is a draw, but can't otherwise, even when at the top of his game.

Ward's a top 5 p4per, so he probably tops the list.

It's because the higher ups put all their eggs in only a couple of baskets, and all of the guys that just want to box and make a decent living get used as filler. I prefer the guys that don't draw anyway. They fight anyone, anywhere and don't have annoying fans.
