Two that I read and thought were very interesting. Were "Unforgivable Blackness" which also had a DVD as it was a PBS program by Ken Burns, and is a bio of Jack Johnson.

And "A flame of Pure Fire" which is a bio of Jack Dempsey. By Roger Kahn.

An autobiography essentially means the person in question either wrote it himself, or more commonly, co-wrote it with a professional writer. A biography usually means there was very little input from the subject being written about. Could be because he's/she's no longer alive or it could be because they have simply chosen not to cooperate.

Muhammad Ali: His Life and Times by Thomas Hauser

This book actually inspired me to keep reading in high school. It was one of the first books I ever read, but kept picking one up after another after this one.

The Sonny Liston one someone mentioned was really good too.

I mean, I like to read a ton of boxer's biographies and autobiographies, some are better than others of course, but I feel if I learn just a little something more it was usually worth it.

I enjoyed all of the Jack Dempsey Biographies and his autobio but A Flame of Pure Fire was exceptional.
