That book about the Schmeling-Louis fight (Nazi Germany Vs Black America) is supposed to be good? I was thinking of ordering it..

'Ring of Hate' is a good book on this subject, I hear that 'Beyond the Glory' does a bit of a hatchet job on Schmeling

No, I wouldn't go that far. It certainly doesn't buy into the heart of gold thing as readily as some others, but hatchet job is too hard.

Not that i'm saying that Schmeling didn't have a heart of gold, just that this is not what's presented in the book.

I guess the truth would have a baring on whether or not the book was tough on him - here is another perspective, seemingly well researched.

I might check it myself then, I was going off a rather negative review that was in Boxing Monthly a while back

Is that the same guy who had to print an apology this month because he misunderstood how a dvd worked?

Think he's getting the punt anyway.

Correct, there are infact a few publications avaliable regarding this fight. Ring Of Hate would be the pick of 'em.

    A fantasic read.

I really liked that book, I really liked it.

My favourite thing about it was how Joe made it all the way to the top but the two women (!) who bore him children were both women he met in the swamp.

    Joe didn't take any ****.

"Look at him now. Tell me who really won those three fights."

Maybe we should start calling him 'The Hippo' on ESB, to go with Larry's Mallard. :yep
