I have recently read books on Tunney, Ross, A. Mercante, A Dundee and am looking for some more....

1 What are the best boxing books you have read?

    2. Particularly interested in boxers from the 1950's and earlier...what are the best ones in this regard?

    3. Any good books from the fighters of the bare knuckle era?

If you haven't the Langford book is a must read. Babyface Goes to Hollywood is excellent. Try one if the Sullivan Bios if you want a bare knuckle guy; dude practically invented the 'modern' heavyweight champion.

I'd imagine it's pretty damn good. The damn price won't come down.

I've only read the Isner one but Pollack posts on here and researches like mad. Plus you can read those (he's doing a heavyweight series) in order.

"Nipper: The Amazing Story of Boxing's Wonderboy." Fascinating writing, and even more fascinating story. Tale of boxing wonderboy, Nipper Pat Daly, who turned pro at 9 and took the world by storm (world-ranked by The RING at 16, etc.,). But here's the best part -- it goes much more beyond just Pat Daly's career and life. But the entire book ends up being homage and a tribute to any boxer whose career was cut short through the barbarism and lack of proper fighter care of the 1920's.

A must read, to say the least. http://www.nipperpatdaly.co.uk/nipperboxingbook.html

I've read Bob Mee's "Bare Fists." You'll definitely get the information and insight you need out of this book but.. the writing just SUCKS. He's such a bore and his feeble attempts at humor don't make matters any better. It's seriously painful getting through the entire book.

Just started reading "In the Ring with James J Jeffries" by Pollack. Very thorough and well researched with alot of pictures, first hand accounts, quotes etc. If you have any interest in him buy the book, over 600 pages of very well researched detail.

Then I will just figure that it comes naturally! ;-)

I am aware that this thread has been done, and I used the search function to see what was out there as well. I also had a certain criteria that was not covered in all of them, and I wanted some new recommendations that may not have come before...There are a good many threads on here that have been done to death...If I get annoyed with them I just stay away! Peace!
