I know that we're talking about current commentators but I always thought Bobby Czyz brought some class and credibility to boxing broadcasts.
I havnt heard him so i cant comment on him... but just out of anyone ive heard, Roy Jones Jr is by far the best ive seen. I also like Steward, and Max Kellermen does a decent job too. Also, while non just completely STAND OUT, i have to say that the Showtime team usually is spot on and professional imo. Least favorites 1 - Teddy :-( I am so, so, so thankful he hasnt been picked up by HBO or Showtime, 100% no joke he would ruin it to the point of id have to turn it down or wear headphones if im at someones house. 2 - Foreman. Hes a long way from Teddy, as in... i can endure him, and sometimes he does a decent job, but overall i just dont dig him.
Yes, I agree that Steward and Kellerman are outstanding but I really do think that Atlas is an acquired taste. He does oversimplify his "fight plans"to the point that it's ridiculous but I can take him in small doses, believe it or not.
i really enjoy jones and tarver. and i don't mind a prime jim lampley either. i actually think hopkins would make a great commentator when he decides to hang'em.
Ian Darke (Sky Sports) when he was covering boxing was the best in the world IMO. Better than HBO and Showtime. I like Al Bernstein and Adam Smith from Sky. Lampley on his day is excellent - his call on Hatton vs. Pacquaio was superb.
Best: Al Bernstein, by far the most knowledgeable. Worst: Max Kellerman, - utterly unqualified and obnoxious, the sooner HBO gets rid of this clown the better.
Tarver, Bernstein, Steward, Lampley and Jimmy McGee because some of the **** he comes out with is hilarious.
Interesting that someone mentioned Russ Anber -- is he known outside of Canada? Al Bernstein is for the sober boxing fan. Jim Lampley gets a lot of respect. Teddy Atlas gets a lot of flack as a trainer and for his biases against certain fighters, but as an analyst, he's topnotch. I personally just get annoyed when he keeps repeating the same points over and over during a fight. I cannot comment on British analysts.
thanks for the response guys, i still think ian darke, im not sure if u guys across the water have heard much of him though.. so maybe a lampley - darke tie
Ian Darke is a right homer, remember him in the Barrera- Khan fight? " He took the shot, Khan! took the shot" He is good excitement value, wouldn't say he is particularly knowledgeable though.
