In the early seventies tere was a remarkable series in Bavarian TV: "They never come back - greatest fights of the century".
The moderator was Oskar Klose. Then a very popular sport moderator in Germany. In this series I saw men like Jack Dempsey, Kid Gavilan and others for the first time. Among older boxing fans it has still some cult Status.

Interesting. That definitely makes that one a more appealing prospect.

I just watched No Mas, which I had never seen before. Good stuff.

    :rofl

I'm still convinced that was Larry! It looked EXACTLY like him, but I didn't approach him, as I'm a bit of a burnout and I was wondering why Larry would be sitting all by himself in the Newark airport.

So I've recently watched Kings of the Ring, Champs, No Mas, and The Mysterious Life & Death of Sonny Liston, the last of which I most enjoyed.

Will try and watch more over the coming weeks.

Thanks all for the great suggestions!

    :cheers

The recent one about Luis Resto looking for forgiveness and trying to meet with Billy Collins' father was compelling as well.

Champs, a recent one, is very good. Tyson, Hopkins, and Holyfield are the focus. Tyson tells a tearjerker story about being given some clothes after he joined a gang.

I forgot about that one, I saw that about 4-5 years ago. Great bio. That was the first time I was aware of the spiked drink Pryor was given against his first fight against Arguello.

I saw the Liston doc recently on Netflix's (I believe), very interesting. He certainly never got the respect or appreciation I think he was due. After he won the title he thought there'd be a parade for him when he returned home, instead, there was basically the sound of crickets.

Lionel, the Lionel Rose documentary is good. Sons of Cuba is another one well worth a watch and very thought provoking. Already been mentioned and I enjoyed it the Wilfredo Gomez documentary.

poor old sonny got shafted by various people from when he was born till he died.
I'd sooner watch the great man skip to Nighttrain than watch the kits fight.
