I seen Assault in the Ring like last week. What a F****** film man! Truly a heartbreaking story and outcome for all parties involved except maybe the mafia or whoever influenced the move to remove the padding. The amount of dislike I had for Panama Lewis by the end of that documentary could've filled a room. RIP Billy Collins
Assault in the Ring was great. A glaring look at the sleazy and corrupt underworld in boxing. Very sad outcomes for all involved except for the sleazebag Panama Lewis, who should have been barred from the sport.
I was somewhat surprised that a better movie on the career of Jack Dempsey was never made. Something as good as the one on Braddock.
I liked The Fighter, and Balboa, because of the old depressed former champ making a come back, with his dog "Punchy."
Yes, Cinderella Man was, except for the Baer depiction, was excellent. Expect another attempt at a Dempsey film would be a mini - series. Glaring omissions of unmade compelling subjects, among many, are ones on Kid McCoy, Ketchel, Gans. When Johnson had his conviction pardoned a few years ago there was talk of Stallone buying the rights. These usually take forever to be made. Let’s hope if it is ever made, it’s a million miles away from his comical series on a slugger from Philadelphia.
I finally watched Cinderella Man after it being the most suggested film in this thread and for great reason. What a film!
As someone who only knows Baer from the Cinderella man film, what didn't the directors do to properly portray the real Max Baer? He seemed to be the villain/antagonist from the movie. As an audience member i was rooting for him to lose. Was that anything like how the real fight played out?
Hard Times. Captures the grit of the depression era - a drifter who knows how uses his hands uses them to make ends meat and solve a few problems along the way. Formulaic while also being a breath of fresh air.
