In your entire time of reading boxing magazines, which magazine was the best? The Ring. World Boxing. KO. Boxing Monthly. Boxing Illustrated. Fight Game. Also, which era was of your favorite magazine was the best. I personally liked The Ring magazines from the early 80's when Bert Sugar was the editor. Also recently, I have been reading some Boxing Illustrated's from the late 80's and early 90's. Not much variety in them but the topic they focus on is usually great. One of them has Tyson and Robin Givens on the front cover, 1989..... The whole issue mainly focuses on Tyson and the back of the magazine is on Robinson as he it was a tribute to him after his death. In the 60's - 70's the best was the ring magazine but Boxing Illustrated had photos and story's of every fight that was worth mentioning, they both were good but Ring had the special paper. Later on they all had there own strengths and weaknesses
Well, when I collected magazines still, I'd probably go for Boxing Illustrated as my first pick since it was the most comprehensive, especially in terms of fight coverage. It also had a unique feel about it, unlike KO or World Boxing which were sister publications and often had the same writers and similar articles. BI had crappy, low-quality paper though and mostly black and white photos, so it didn't score so high there. (I think they did upgrade the quality of the paper a bit later on though.) I'd rank The Ring after Boxing Illustrated as my number 2 choice, then KO/World Boxing. I only read a few Boxing Monthly magazines. It seemed quite good, but the quality of writing seemed superior in the American publications at the time.
Robbi, if I'm not mistaken that pic in your avatar is from a KO/Boxing World photo, when they covered the fight? I seem to recall it since it was such a dramatic photo.
American ones - The Ring Boxing Illustrated Ko Magazine British ones - Boxing News Boxing Monthly All worth a read.
