I thought Russell Crowe looked amazing in the fight scenes for Cinderella Man, and teh fight scenes were very realistic. As much as I love Rocky, the fight scenes are so far fetched lol. I would have to say that Raging Bull is the best boxing movie, followed by Cinderella Man, Rocky, and Ali. I may have to rent the Champ since it's getting a lot of good hyper here.
Told you bro...lol It's a tear jerker, Great Movie. Ricky Schroder earned a Golden Globe for his performance in The Champ.
how bout champion starring kirk douglas good flick and diggstown with lou gossik jr and james woods. not a bad movie.
There's a new movie out there that, for some reason, is being held from national release called "From Mexico with Love". It tells the story of an immigrant Mexican welterweight contender who's in Texas taking fights in order to get his family to America. He initially gets frozen out by the locals and must find a way to move up despite the odds against him. Some of the people who've seen a sneak preview say it's great, well-written and acted, with the best fight scenes ever seen in a movie. Some of the people involved include: Director: Jimmy Nickerson (who choreographed the Raging Bull fight scenes. Supporting actors include: Bruce McGill (Cinderella Man, Animal House) Stephan Lang (Tombstone, Gods & Generals) Stephan Bauer (Scarface)... They say the young actor portraying the fighter is a natural. Hope it comes out sometime soon.
Very good movie, but more of a documentary. I'd add Unforgivable Blackness, The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson to this list. As for the Hollywood contributions to the sport, Rocky I, II & III, Raging Bull and Requiem For a Heavyweight with Anthony Quinn are the exceptions IMO.
