Requiem For A Heavyweight with Anthony Quinn. Cameo roles included Jack Dempsey, Willie Pep and a a very young Cassius Clay.
Well if John Garfield were here, he would find it unbelievable that no one has mentioned "Body and Soul". [yt]dXa1p26x7Cs[/yt] If you ever watch it, you'll recognize that it inspired some of the Bruce Willis story in Pulp Fiction. Some of my favorites are Raging Bull Hard Times (Charles Bronson is a bare knuckle boxer in the Depression) and Those Cllint Eastwood movies where he's a bare knuckle boxer and has a pet orangutang Every Which Way But Loose Every Which Way You Can [yt]lPnGx6XGqXs[/yt]
Surprised nobody mentioned Undisputed, pretty entertaining boxing film.. IP Man 2 was another entertaining boxing film.. was some funny **** to be honest, gotta watch that again.
Golden Boy, which is a play written by Clifford Odets, was a classic in its day and its still pretty good: Golden Boy (1939). Check it out. [yt]ue-b4-WJUMA[/yt]
Stallone is like Nostradamus... Rocky 3...Badass new champion, cleans up division....Tyson a few years later. Rocky 4...Robot eastern european.......Years later, the Klitchbots.
If you like boxing, ghost stories and Charles Bronson, you won't want to miss this: One Step Beyond: The Last Round. An Irish boxer tragically killed in the ring still haunts the old London arena. Legend has it that if a fighter sees the ghost then he won't leave the ring alive! Charles Bronson plays an American fighter, past his best and looking for one last pay day. Will he live to fight another day? Check it out. [yt]5iBrLUn-89I[/yt]
Like boxing? Like sci fi? Like Lee Marvin? The Twilight Zone: Steel. In the future human boxing has been outlawed and replaced with robot boxing. Two down on their luck promoters discover on fight night that their old, out of date robot isn't fit to fight. Marvin, an ex prize fighter himself and desperate for the money, pretends to be a robot himself and the fight is back on! [yt]eybyCHoY-jk[/yt]
This one is among my favourites. The Twilight Zone: The Big Tall Wish. Bolly Jackson is an aging fighter looking for one last payday, the odds are stacked, but the big tall wishes of his neighbours son make all the difference. Or do they? Check it out, its a real gem. [yt]VSv0zS6udig[/yt]
I should point out that I really love the old black and white stuff, so you may not appreciate these films quite as much as I do, but they're all pretty nice and well worth a watch. Hopefully some of you will enjoy them.
No one mentioned When We Were Kings yet I don't think. Good piece of film making although the source material they were working with was top notch
Raging Bull is the Joint. All the Rocky series sucked sweaty nuts! Undisputed and Million dollar baby good. The best of all time best boxing movie was Ali's, The Greatest.
wow you are in for a treat not only one of the best boxing movies but one of the best movies ever period
