For whatever reason I don’t think a lot of his are on YouTube, or at least I haven’t been able to find them. Which is unfortunate. The two Tony Lopez ones (I only see the second on a google search) are good, plus Frankie Mitchell and Sweet Irving Mitchell as I recall were good specimens attesting to Brian’s class. One thing he did that I loved was finishing combinations (at least in some fights) with his jab, which meant he ended an attack or exchange back in his comfortable distance and on balance.
His fights were all good. I quite liked the Bottiglieri fight, where he took on a game hard-swinging fighter and dismantled him like a watch. I have the fight but sadly when I searched for it online now, it appears to have vanished. His fights against Jackie Beard were also pretty good. Now that I search for that, and some other fights, they all seem to have been eaten by time . Sad.
The Lopez fights are the most interesting I saw. But the McDonnell fight was the one that opened my eyes to his excellence.
The McDonnell fight was a tactical chessmatch. Mitchell sometimes struggled with cute, clever boxers, and McDonnell was no exception. He beat McDonnell but he had to work for it. I think both men looked good.
As mentioned Lopez I & II, and McDonnell....I believe it was McDonnell (paraphrase) who said Brian is not great at any one thing, but he is very good at everything and that translates to greatness. not mentioned Jackie Beard and Frankie and Irving Michell I don’t think any of the Jacob Morake fights are on YouTube but if you can find one they are probably worth the watch. I know I have seen #4 a decent link https://www.ringtv.com/595007-brian-mitchell-greatest-hits/
I am a big Mitchell appreciator and like how he referenced wanting to fight Azumah Nelson and Wilfredo Gomez...I think he would beat Gomez but lose to Nelson, but just seeing them would give us a better view of just how great he was or maybe why he falls short. Good entertaining fighter.
Here's a pretty good interview with Mitchell: https://www.ringtv.com/545507-brian-mitchell-the-ultimate-road-warrior-is-happy-to-be-home/
Amazing how long and well he held that title without ever being able to defend it in his own country. A true road warrior who went into his opponents’ backyards because the politics of South Africa created a barrier that made him keep his bag packed.
I never teally liked Tony Lopez. But he was by far the best fighter Brian Mitchell fought. Without him Mitchells resume would be really weak for such a long reigning champion.
you could, but then again you could just watch all of his fights...personally my favorite was Lopez vs Jorge Paez
Yes its too bad he didnt get to fight more of the top guys around his weight class. Tony Lopez by some margin is his best victim.
