Yeah in a boxing context 'great' Carries more weight than say, "I had a great meal last night" or "I had a great wank at work the other day" By the way atberry is Chris Eubank everyone, so watch what you say
michael brodie probably the best not on the list. although he was robbed of course. atsch in his hometown. :bart
Alan Rudkin and Jim Driscoll aren't on the list. To compare Brodie to them is preposterous! In-Jin Chi was very good don't get me wrong but compared to the genuine world champions Rudkin faced off with he's a journeyman in comparison.
Great call , Tommy was hanging with and beating some quality heavies of the first Golden era of the heavyweights he is streets ahead of any Welshman never to win a world title imo and should be right up there near the top in any British fighter based debate .
was referring to jorrin on the robbery bit. yeah when i actually thought about it i was fairly wide of the mark. colin jones was better for a start. u must tell me where u got that time machine to watch driscoll fight. :yep
Agreed , You're on ground a mile high here Flea with this comment , not only taking the likes of the ledgendary Lionel Rose the distance over 15 in his back yard but losing by the width of a *** paper backs this up , Rudkin is probably top five material in any of these debates imo , RIP Al .
Yep Harada was no mug either , sometimes i forget just how good Alan was . very underated and over looked in this modern era .
Good call this one.Fought abroad and battled the champions to the wire.Split 2 decisions with Walter McGowan who was a world champ and would have been an even better one if not cut prone. Laing talented but not for consideration imo.Remember Buck Smith and Fred Hutchings.Great performance, but would he have beaten Duran in a return?Think Colin Jones more worthy. I was at Bramall Lane when Bomber fought Lindell Holmes, who I think was a world class fighter at the time. From my viewpoint(at the back)Graham slightly in front and would have won,but it was getting interesting.Think if he was younger, would have beaten Brewer, also almost any other time Jackson. But never McCallum(all time great) or Hagler.Well never know.
Rudkin was robbed against McGowan first time. He also has many wins over decent contender types/serious journeyman that to the casual eye look like no hopers if just seen on boxrec.
Well, Graham wasn't a mile away from getting the decision against McCallum including a point deduction on the official scoring, although as i stated in my previous post i had McCaalum winning by 2 or 3 pts, but it would not have been the worst robbery of all time had Graham got the nod imo.
Take your point sas, thought it was close myself, but think McCallum was an all round better boxer, which to me is no disgrace as I think, rightly or wrongly,he was the Sugar Ray Robinson of his era.Certainly wouldnt debate anyone saying Graham was number one in this,as,for example ,I believe,he would beat Felix Sturm or Sergio Martinez.
McCallum was the what of his era? Don't understand. When was Ray ever totally schooled in his prime like McCallum, a favourite of mine BTW, was against Sumbu?
Dont remember the Kalambay fight too well, but would be very surprised if totally schooled. In later life,Robinson clearly outpointed by Joey Giardello,Joey Archer.Beaten in UK by Terry Downes and Mick Leahy. To be fair, nowhere near his prime. But,he was beaten in his prime by Randolph Turpin and Joey Maxim, stopped by the latter despite what anybody says about the heat. Flea Man,never said McCallum was as good as Robinson.Just as I personally see him.And was he in his prime then? A great thing about Ray,imo,is that he was capable of going the distance, when well past his best, with the top prospects.Mike ,I think, had the same quality. Its just the way I see him.
Be interesting to see how Kalambay would of went against that Ray, the Ray who did drop that middleweight title a few times or McCallum for that matter.
