I put both around the same place in the P4P list. I think Hatton is at 6 and Calzaghe at 7. Calzaghe beat a great who'd just been beaten and then he beat a prospect who hasn't re-proven himself y et. Hatton has beaten a top10 140 pounder and a top 30 135 pounder.
Good question this. Hmm just off the top of my head il try a British top 10 P4P list. 1. Calzaghe 2. Hatton 3. Haye 4. Witter 5. Arthur 6. Froch 7. Macca 8. Woods 9. Lynes 10. Thaxton I dunno, i got stuck towards the end and im still thinking i forgot someone.
I also believe Haye is the one for the future. Haye has real, real power, no matter if he's boxing at Cruiser/HW. DFavid has impved ten-fold since the loss to Carl Thompson. The loss was a wake up call & did him the world of good. I believe we have seen a more serious Haye ever since. If Haye beats Mormeck, then he's in with a shout of being the best british boxer out there. Mormeck is recognised as the best 200lbs boxer out there. However, Hatton has beaten Tszyu/Castillo, so for me, it's Ricky. Also, in Mayweather, Hatton will have faced a calibre of boxer that Haye, Calzaghe have never faced & possibly never will.
GREAT U.S fighters, no. But the best U.S fighters around, world top 5-10 and former world champions. Good wins to have nonetheless. If this thread has shown me anything it's that any wins can be denigrated if you try hard enough. Hatton beats a proven, established warrior with a great record like Castillo (and Tszyu for that matter) and it's "he was old, he was past his best". Calzaghe meanwhile meets a young, hungry reigning champ like Lacy who was on a tear through the division and the detractors say "he's unproven, never really beat anyone". For the record, I think Calzaghe is the most talented and accomplished fighter in Britain, though the latter at least could change if Hatton pulls it off against PBF.
First Place - Joe Calzaghe Second Place - Empty Third Place - Empty Fourth Place - Empty Fifth Place - Empty Sixth Place - Hatton
I think JC - he's been a world champion for 10 years, thats an acheivement in itself, even if a lot of the competition he faced are not top draw. He's still fought a lot of good fighters. Hatton obviously the very close 2nd best.
Both are #1 in my opinion, but in terms of accomplishments Hatton has obviously done more but skills Calzaghe wins it so both are #1.
Calazaghe by far,it's not his fault no ones been around at the time,Roy Jones was the only one Calzaghe can maybe be guilty for dodging, but he was a little too early in his career to box,Hatton's good but not in calzaghe's league
RJJ has been operating at 168 whilst Calzaghe has been fighting. RJJ was at 168 til the end of 1996, so they could have fought but he was still way way too green at that point.
