If you think Graham was easy on the eye ,I bet you liked Johnny Nelson's snore fests too. Both of them bored the **** out of me.
I never made the comparison based on opposition or greatness. My post cleary states why I see a lot of Eubank in Leonard.
Good Chin, Came from behind and Ring Generalship isnt enough to compare Eubank to Ray Leonard ....... still a bit vague considering Ray Leonard was a brilliant mover and Eubank was notoriously flat footed ..
eubank was no sugar ray leonard, but who was ? don't dare bash our golden age of benn, eubank and watson, its unbashable .
Smiffy i enjoyed it as much as anyone but its important to understand that this was at British domestic level, not World Level .... Benn and Eubank wanted nothing of MCcallum, Nunn, Toney or Jones, unfortunately thats a fact and Nigel and Chris dont deny it
Eubank was 'notoriously' flat-footed? Well, you aint seen a lot of him as he was anything but flat-footed. He was a counter-puncher who relied on his movement on the backfoot, patience, speed, and was resourceful with his punches. Eubank's lateral movement made him versatile. He wasn't a front foot fighter, only in patches throughout his career. His swift movement around the ring was part of the reason he hung in there with Benn, who was the aggressor more often than not in their two fights. Yes, I'll say it again. Good chin, coming from behind Watson and proving his metal in other encounters, and most importantly smartness and ring generalship is enough to make me see a lot of Eubank in Leonard.
So tell me, which world level middleweight did Eubank beat, yeah he beat Benn but Benn was already destroyed by Watson, yeah he beat Watson but by then Watson had been destroyed by MCcallum .. Eubank never faced a proper World Level fighter, he was a good counter puncher and had a great chin but he was also very flat footed, he wasnt a mover in the Sugar Ray mould which is what your claiming ... And remember Eubank went 12 with absolute C class fighters like Rocchigianni, Ray Close and Henry Wharton ......... How is it that you can sit there and claim that Chris Eubank is similar to Sugar Ray Leonard in any way ..... Im not sure you understand how good Ray Leonard was
Benn didnt want Toney, thats a fact .... Eubank is on record saying that Roy Jones would have destroyed him ..... And there are conspiracy theorists out there who say that the 2nd fight between Benn and Eubank was only called a draw because the winner was due to face Nunn ....... Now if you watch that rematch its clear that Benn wins, but with a draw they both went on they're own paths and avoided Nunn ..
Are you plain stupid? Because you're certainly coming to the stage of actually convincing me that you are. Go back and read my posts again. I fully understand how good Leonard was, and I did in my mention second last post that the comparison wasn't to do with greatness. I'm not stating Eubank was as fast or fought the same level of competition. He was a very good counter puncher and his ring generalship was one of his main attributes. Leonard and Eubank were both smart fighters, good chins, used the ring, moved laterally, and were economical with their punches. Find where I said that Eubank's resume was up there with Leonard's. You're replying to things that are coming into your mind and not specifically to the content of my posts. It's like someone else saying that they see a lot of Tua in Tyson. I'm sure many people agree that their are a lot of similarities in the way they fought, although Tyson was greater of course. Eubank wasn't very flat-footed.
British domestic level from that era was james Cook, John Ashton etc.. nowhere near top ten or world class and possessing no real fighting ability whatsoever. Watson and co were all legit top ten world class fighters.Anyone competent that watches them can see this even if not a big fan surely?. MIke MCCallum is hardly a good barometer of a typical world level middle.
As a slight aside, i always felt that Bunny Sterling, on his night, would upset quite a few of his more illustrious successors, over the Modern 12 rounds distence, Bunny Boxed Rings around Admittedly Faded Luis Rodriguez and Billy Dynamite Douglas, He also Went to Tom Bogs Home turf and beat him (thats Again to Beating sven Ottke at home ! ) - For a short While Bunny was the Ring Magazine's No 1 world Rated Middleweight Contender. When Bunny Lost it was iusually because of the 15 Rounds Distence, Over 12 as stated, i think Bunny might surprise a few people !?
benn said he'd fight toney. he never ran from anyone he just wasn't built that way. love all this " he ducked him " crap, how the hell do you know ? the more i've read your posts on this subjest the more i think you have no idea what you're on about.
