fighters are meant to be lean, loose and agile, builds more like a Freddie Steele and his era of fighters eveen up to Joe Louis at HW. the MW division was loaded with the ideal body type and build for excellence, Lean, Flexible, Hard -not ripped, and Strong.
Bulk ain't good on a MW. It used to be discouraged for HWs too. Those photographs that we see now and then where they have bodybuilders wearing boxing gloves are all wrong. There was a cover of some American sports magazine where one of Moorer's HW prospects who was originally a college football player is pictured with boxing gloves. It looked silly. He's got heavily muscled pecs hanging down and giant arms that he's gotta sling for 12 rounds. Yah, I don't think so. Wrong sport. The good news for any active amateurs out there is that now and then one of these mooses will look in the mirror and get ideas. They come into the gym and challenge what they see as scrawny guys --and then get wrecked. They look like lumberjacks against lightning.
