I suppose George Chuvalo would be the initial choice, Given the quality of opporsition he faced, albeit mainly lost to, the Flukey Quarry win stands out on his win column, However Larry Gains deserves serious consideration. I remember thinking Gordie Racette might be one to watch but it didnt quite happen.
i think chuvalo, some nice wins, but how do you feel about lewis, ruddock or berbick do you class any of them as canadian
HI Luke, I tend to think of Ruddock and Berbick as Jamaican, Post olympics Lennox was often accused of fighting under a "Flag of Convenience" pursuing his career in the united Kingdom, and draping himself in a union jack flag post fights, I think we'll call him british ! - Funny thing is with tennis Player Andy Murray, Like Ken Buchanan before him, When he wins he's British...when he Loses...he's that Scotsman !!! Now didnt someone work out that Muhammed Ali had Irish Ancestory..Hmmmm
Whatever country these fighters picked up and started boxing in is what they should be classed as...so Lennox Lewis is a "Canadian Boxer"
im not a brit either im english, but as for buchanan he was a good fighter, and a nice bloke so hes alright in my book how about sam langford?
im in 2 minds over this, he has the best hw career of all canadians... but he started as a light weight (all beit malnurished) and was probly a 160- 175 guy.
Yes, and his heavyweight resume is still better than those of any other three Canadian born heavyweights combined! I could reel off a list of guys he beat who were better than Chuvalo!
Sam Langford Tommy Burns George Chuvalo Larry Gains (Tie) Earl Walls and Bob Cleroux That's if you don't consider Lennox Lewis and Trevor Berbick to the Canadian.
Lewis is ethnically Jamaican. His parents are Jamaican but he was born in one place, raised in another then went back to where he was born but spends a lot of time where his parents came from. Id say Lennox is Jamaican. He’s a cat born in the cow shed who will always be a cat. George Chuvalos parents were Bosnian but he was born raised and fought out the same place his whole life in a country where a large section of people were born to immigrants. Hes more Canadian than Lennox Lewis by a long shot. Burns, Langford and Gains were better heavyweights than George Chuvalo though.
