I don't know what to study in college because I want a career that allows me to pursue a pro boxing career as well after I graduate. If boxing doesn't pan out I still want a good job that will allow me to live a comfortable life. Btw I have been going to a boxing gym for 7 months but have known how to box/technique for 2 years. I will start amateurs soon.

Read up on Carlos Palomino and Armando Muniz. They had boxing careers that went well and graduated.

    Idiotic way of thinking.

Sort out your education first and train when you can.

Building your life around boxing at your age is pure stupidity. Not saying that to offend you, but you really need to rethink what you're planning.

No offense man, but this guy is right. Study as much as you need, and box whenever you can, any other choice would be a mistake. I repeat, please, take no offense, but he's right.

Thats what I was planning but I want to pursue boxing as well as studies. I just wanted a career that I could do as well as pro boxing if I make it to that level because boxing doesn't give a reliable income until at least 10 bouts and thats if you're good. I have a lot of experience with fighting in general since my friends boxed and we would spar in the backyard in middle school plus my family has history in boxing. My grandfather was a sparring partner of Joe Louis.

So your 16 and your grandfather was a sparring partner of joe louis? How ****ing old is he. Joe louis retired 50 years before you were born

There's no reason you can't do both. The issue here is that you need to realize education always comes first.

Yet you want to build your life around boxing before you've even had your first amateur fight... Can't you see how ridiculously stupid that is?

You and your friends "sparring" in a backyard is not boxing.

    And..?

just do both, don't spread yourself to thin and don't put all your eggs in one basket. both bad ideas. but make sure you study hard and train hard and don't lose sight of what your trying to do. stay focused and disciplined

He died before I was born and he would be 98 if he was alive today.

It shows I'm no noob mutha****a when it comes to boxing and having sparring experience for 2+ years with people who have been boxing since little ass kids is better than any experience I could get at a gym for 2 years. I'm far past the basics and confident in myself which is all that counts or else I wouldn't have created this thread. Unless you have good advice on the original question quit commenting.

You've been going to a boxing gym for 7 months and haven't had your first match. You are a n00b my friend.

This is something only an ignorant teenager could come out with. Seriously. You're better off "sparring" some kids in a backyard than training in a boxing gym? Just lol.

You could have all the confidence all the world, you'll only know if it means anything when you're put under the real pressure of a match.

I've given you advice, you just don't want to hear it.

The only reason I haven't had my first match is because of braces since I got them on a year ago but about to get them off in a month or two. Otherwise I would have had my first match when I joined. Also I started sparring since the first week I started at the gym. I trained at home to 2 years before that on bags and mitts. Would I be better off sparring with people in a gym that had less experience? You don't know me, you don't know where I come from, and you don't know how good I am. All the real fights I've been in, have been with bigger people and I always win. If I could beat up someone on a moments notice that picked the fight with me and I have adrenaline rushing through my head, what do you think would happen if I was calm and collected? You didn't give any advice, you just told me not to box. Just because you got knocked out in your first fight doesn't mean everyone else sucks too. The original post btw was careers that I could have and have time to box/ if boxing doesn't work out, I want to be able to live comfortably off of this career. You have not answered any part of that.

Lol. You honestly believe you would have had a match sorted for you straight away because you claim you know how to box since you mess around with friends in a garden somewhere?

Congrats. Most likely not a very good gym then.

    Holy ****. Professional stuff.

You'd be better off with a coach. It's not difficult to understand, mate.

    And?

Again, congrats. You can "win" a street fight against some average Joe. How many boxing matches have you won?

    Read above.

Please read what I said. I actually told you you could do both, but education is more important.

Hate to put a downer on your attempted insult but I've never been knocked out in my life.

    Actually I did.

Reading comprehension isn't your strong point is it?
