Those would make up a pretty solid top 3 - McCall took bombs from Bruno and was barely shaken, one of only two men to take Frank the distance.
James Toney is up there, maybe not the very best but certainly up there. In an 80+ fight career starting at mw and ending up at hw, he has been visibly hurt once (Reggie Johnson) before coming back to win the fight, he has been a little shaken once (the second Sam Peter fight) but he was a natural mw/smw fighting a fully-sized fully-fledged powerpunching hw, and that's that. His chin and defence really are something special. B-Hop, Hagler, Wayne McCullough, Oliver McCall, LaMotta all deserve mentions.
He was very skilled really, was outjabbing and standing Lennox Lewis on his head for six rounds. Stamina was his big problem, and an inability to hit the deck when hurt. Instead standing there with his chin in the air asking to be KO'd. The common theory that he was chinny is a terrible, terrible myth.
So true. I see other fighters with great chins do the same, rather than cover up or clinch. One of my favorite quotes was when Merchant said-"DLH blocks punches with his gloves, Mayorga blocks them with his head."
You are priceless man. You take one argument, try to poke a hole in what I had to say, and it had nothing to do with my point of the argument. I'll say it over and over. Get your **** straight. I'll scale back my anger against you and keep it civil. I don't know you, it's not fair to lay into you like this, but you make it SO EASY. I will agree with you and say ONE OF the best chins ever, but I don't think he's the best. George Chuvalo stood against some of the hardest hitters in boxing. I'd say he holds the distinction of the best chin ever.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think Bruno had a granite chin, but certainly better than 5 stoppage losses from 5 would suggest.
LaMotta fought the great Ray robinson SIX times and never touched the canvas. Who else can say that? That is nearly impossible.
