War Saunders, another top-shelf journeyman, probably belongs in the conversation as well. He faced a slew of B-grade punchers as well as some absolute elites, and went a full decade without getting stopped. (only succumbing finally to Beterbiev, via corner retirement, while pushing 40)

Ricardo Mayorga and JLC should be on the list. I know they've been stopped a couple times but it took many hard shots from devastating punchers to do it. And in Mayorga's case his defense was so bad that he got hit at will but his chin was pure granite

Are you serious? James Toney probably has the GOAT chin. From 2000 upwards, he absorbed monstrous shots from Jirov and Lebedev at CW, Holyfield, Rahman, Samuel Peter and even Lucas Browne at HW. The same shots that knocked out long reigning Heavyweight King Lennox Lewis and Wladamir Klitschko got absorbed by an extremely shot, former MW champion. Toney absorbed monstrous punishment from Samuel Peter, I don't see any former MW in history having the same success Toney had at HW and CW.

Mayorga had never been hurt before fighting Trinidad, his chin was the best in the business, the same shots that knocked iron chinned Mosley down Mayorga ate like cup cakes for breakfast. Felix Trinidad is probably one of the greatest punchers the WW division has EVER seen, an extremely destructive puncher with power on both hands and one of the greatest left hooks in history. Mayorga let Trinidad tee him off in the first round and continued to absorb punches for 8 rounds straight until Trinidad found his weakness to the body despite throwing everything but the kitchen sink at his jaw. Despite having no defense whatsoever, he absorbed monstrous shots from DLH, Mosley and Miguel Cotto at 154(lasting the 12th) even though several years removed from his prime. Everyone knows that you're not knocking out Mayorga with head shots, even shot Mosley knew in Mayorga's last fight.

Bernard Hopkins absorbed punches from Felix Trinidad, Kelly Pavlik, Roy Jones Jr, Sergey Kovalev, and Antonio Tarver. No 50 year old former MW would be able to take the shots Kovalev unleashed at Hopkins. He hit him with absolutely everything and Hopkins barely flinched.

Hopkins won his undisputed MW championship from Trinidad in 2001, how is he a 90's fighter? In the 2000's he's fought murderous punches in different weight classes like Trinidad, Pavlik, Tarver and Kovalev.

From 2000 onward, James Toney absorbed monstrous punches from Cruiserweights and legit full sized super heavyweights. Wlad Klitschko had a tough time with Samuel Peter, getting knocked down 3 times by the Nigerian Nightmare and barely surviving. James Toney(a shot former MW) fought Peter twice a year after Klitty, and absorbed monstrous shots that would of knocked out any man, he arguably should of won the first fight. The same goes for Hasim Rahman who knocked out HW King Lennox Lewis in 01, then 5 years later would fight James Toney twice, throwing punches that would make any midget grimace in pain. No boxer in the last 50 years has shown the chin James Toney displayed, despite being shot as dog **** and having over 90 fights, he has never been stopped in a boxing ring. Never, despite fighting hard hitting MW's, SMWs, CWs, and HW's.

No doubt, a lot of these guys don't even belong on the list. It's like a lot of people didn't follow boxing since the early 00's.

Of course Toney had a very good chin. But you have to know he was one of the slickest guys around, and was rarely hit clean. When he did get hit he would almost always ride with the punch and take the sting out of it. And when he was hit more solidly he was well balanced and in position and had great eyes and saw the punch coming, so it just wouldn't have full effect.

Hopkins again had a very good chin but had great defence. He didn't absorb many but smothered the punches of Trinidad, Pavlik, and Tarver, and didn't allow them to get full extension on their power. Against Kovalev Hopkins was hit more than we've seen before and put on an amazing display of toughness and didn't go down. But guess what? He was hurt, in the 8th I think and the 12th. One more round and I think he would've been stopped.

It's too difficult to evaluate a fighter's chin who has great defence and rarely got hit cleanly. It at least has to be looked at a lot more closely than you have, imagining Toney and Hopkins regularly walked into flush power punches.

Mayorga took a lot of the shots Tito and Oscar threw at him, sure. But did you miss him being knocked down with the first serious hook of Oscar's he tasted? Or that Mayorga was drunk and wobbly since the 5th against Tito, before as well as after being hurt to the body in the 7th? Mayorga hid how badly he was often hurt with his toughness and showboating. And though of course he had no defence and handed opponents free shots, that he saw those punches allow him to brace himself to take them. So his chin was both not tested as severely and was worse than it appears. Mayorga and Hopkins as they have been hurt I'll give an A- for their chins, Toney I can't recall ever being hurt so an A but not A+ as his defence makes his chin inconclusive.

Haven't read most of the pages so I'm sure someone elae has pointed this out, but it's effing crazy not to have Vitali here. Can make a half decent argument VK has the best chin of all time, let alone this century.

:eyebrow2: James Toney was 35 when he beat Jirov, his movement and skills had depleted by the time he started getting recognition again. His fights then on have been at close range, absorbing shots to the body and head from monstrous punchers bigger than him. Whether he got the the full sting from the punches is irrelevant, a 37 year old former middleweight shouldn't be competing with full fledged HW's who have the power to knock out anyone. Toney's chin transcends weight classes, no pugilist in the last century has displayed a finer chin than him.

Mayorga was drunk and wobbly in the 1st round of the Trinidad fight after letting him throw 2 signature Trinidad left hooks with all of his might. Even so, he absorbed those same punches for 8 rounds straight with little to no defense. Trinidad is probably the hardest hitting WW we've ever seen since Thomas Hearns and his power carried up all the way to Middleweight. He has ruined countless fighters careers with his destructive punching power, Vargas, Reid, Barnes to name a few. Mayorga got the absolute beating of his lifetime and was never the same again, yet still showed an excellent mandible despite his chin being cracked by Trinidad.

Of course Hopkins was hurt against Kovalev, Kovalev is an extremely destructive puncher who killed a man in the ring and Hopkins was a 50 year old man trying to make history. Fighters aren't supermen, if you get hit flush enough times you're bound to get hurt or knocked out.

True, but..only fought one hard punching elite since the start of the century, though (and was stopped by him - yes on cuts but he was staggering drunk off uppercuts before the stoppage, rocked several times). I guess if you want to stretch it and say Peter that makes two, but still.

    Here's my list
    1. Fat Toney: hamburger lover moved up in weight fighting a who's who of punchers. Took decent punches from Sam Peter and didn't get phased. Regardless of the quality of his defense, he wasn't close to being stopped.
    2. Oliver McCall: stood in front of Lennox with his hands down. Enough said.
    3. Margarito: this is one I'm unsure of. He got KOed by juiced Mosley but he took so many flush bombs that I am not sure if anyone else could have survived. Walked plenty of big punchers down with a smile.

What about Hopkins! He got plastered by Kov but never hit the floor and he was damn near 50! To my knowledge the only time he was down was a balance shot. Correct me if I'm wrong here!

Too bad Margo's eye wasn't as tough as his chin!
