I’d like this thread to be a place to mention the best champs and contenders to come out of Colombia and to discuss the attributes most common to Colombian fighters. I know it is not as great as Mexico, Argentina or Puerto Rico but there’s been a high number of fighters from there. It’s also interesting that most Colombian boxers are of almost totally African descent and tend to come from the coastal regions of the country. Perhaps the greatest was Antonio Cervantes, but I also liked Ricardo Torres. And what about the bizarre style of Carlos Maussa??
He's not one of the best. But he definitely holds the most hilarious knockout victory among his compatriots. One of the bigger upsets by a Columbian as well. This content is protected
All good, it happens. Recently, I was doing a rugby poll and forgot one if my all times favorites. Total brain fart on my part.
Cervantes is clearly the Colombian GOAT by a pretty substantial margin. He's followed by Valdez at 2, and Happy Lora at 3. It's an absolute crime that neither Valdez nor Lora are in the HOF. Somewhere in the top 10 (and he hasn't been mentioned yet) is the very underrated Fidel Bassa.
I actually thought this might happen and had a small bet on a KO win. Khan had already been dropped by feather fisted Limond and Prescott looked a real banger if very limited. I remember Sky doing a piece on where he was from and the taxi driver making them get out of his car whilst it was still moving as he wouldn't pull over in that neighbourhood. Then they spoke to the locals and you could see they all properly believed he had a chance and so it proved. I haven't laughed as much about a result until Fury punched up Wilder.
Storm Alvarez has some pretty good wins Pascal Kovalev Bute Miranda Chilembela 36 though so times ticking
Joel Julio Antonio PItalua Fidel Bassa Bernardo Mercado Oscar Negrete Rafael Pineda Fulgencio Zuniga I'm pretty certain they are all Colombian I might be off on one or two of them.
