I don't consider Manny Pacquiao a great combination puncher. He's calmed down and become more calculated over the last 3-4 years, but he still flurries more than anything else. I consider Pacquao many things, including the greatest fighter since Pernell Whitaker, but he isn't a definitive example of great pin point, accurate, and varied combination punching. Not in my opinion, anyhow.

:happy About damn time someone uploaded footage of this fight on Youtube. I must have watched this fight a good 25 times. One of my favorite displays of combination punching of any fighter, This content is protected
Robinson can beat most of these combinations with just one arm. 0:40 [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IjmymFHotQg[/ame]
Speaking of Robinson... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nzCPUhIpSU[/ame] One of my fav combinations from him.
That's a very good example of what i always say about Robinson, he could just unleash combos without any developments occurring to as a platform for the combo. Instead of jabbing or whatever (which he did as well), he could sometimes just throw combos right off the bat. Which he seems to be doing all the time in many of these prime vids that have been emerging on youtube.
I haven't seen him unleashing too much in the prime vids I run across but yes I agree Robinson could make a combination without setting it up, he would just throw it.
Lol. I just found another vid and this one has Robinson letting his hands go abit. Okay maybe more than a bit but this is some beautiful stuff. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEq6djdwuPE&feature=related[/ame]
I would agree. It is the speed, angles and volume of Pacquiao's punching that makes it effective, his is not the varied, measured, smooth combo delivery of a Whitaker or a Duran. To be honest, Pacquiao is at his most incisive and effective when he looks to land the single, perfect shot rather than a combination. When he ducked a punch then came up and sent Morales flailing into the ropes, when he allowed Cotto to open up then sent in the missile that dropped him to the canvas, when he simultaneously ducked a punch and landed a punch that put Hatton down first time, when he was the one who landed the more accurate and forceful punch in an exchange in the second Marquez fight sending JMM to the mat, all of these instances of Pac at his best are when he uses the right punch at the right time to make a difference. I think a lot of this success is down to Freddie studying his opponents and teaching Manny how and when to throw the perfect punch for that particular opponent.
