Good line.Upon the initial read it seems as though he meant Lewis.I cracked up laughing when I read the first line of your contri.Caught me off guard hahahaha.

 

Byrd

 

Ibeabuchi was for sure the greatest threat.
Chris Byrd was also a threat because of his style
John Ruiz, yes he gave tall guys fits with his ugly style
Tua that fought Ibeabuchi would have been a different fight compared to the slob that showed up against Lewis

 

Yes but as ugly as Ruiz was to watch, he wound up beating some pretty solid guys. It would have been an ugly fight but I would have liked to see how Lewis matched up against some of these really hard guys to fight, Byrd and Ruiz at that time.

 

I can't help but think Lewis vs Byrd would be rather similar to Wlad vs Byrd I. Lewis might take a few more misses because he's not as timid or robotic as Wlad, but then again there's the possibility he pulls an Ibeabuchi. Byrd just barely made it to the finish line with Klitschko, and had his dad stand on the ring apron with the towel, twice.

 

Man I hate when people say this. You cant compare Lewis to Wlad. Lewis was slower, and doesnt fight like Wlad at all. The only comparison is they're both tall. The Klitschkos fight much taller than Lewis did and Wlad was much quicker with his jab.

 

I like this list. I suppose you could add Foreman and Ruiz to the mix as well.

 

frank maloney said in an intrview in 2000, that he would not let lewis anywhere near ike for love nor money. i think he's exagerrating but the fight wouldnt of happened until the moiney was right

 

You think a small, defensive minded counter puncher is in a good stylistic matchup against Lewis.


Let me put it this way. Of all opponents Byrd faced, Wlad was closest to Lewis, and he annihilated Byrd. Of all opponents Lewis faced, i wouldn't really know who was closest to Byrd in style, but i do know that a tall guy with a great jab and power is not likely to be bothered by a small, slick boxer.

 

Just dont know really, but Lewis gets so many passes. Byrd outslicked Lewis main sparring partner Mo Harris, who had a pretty decent jab himself and often tried to emualte Lewis.

 

But Wlad wasnt ranked by the sanctioning bodies world title belts Lewis held since he was hiding behind his meaningless WBO title which kept him out of the rankings and from having to fight Lewis.

Then he took what was to be an easy home fight against a semi retired Sanders and lost.

 

So because he supposedly outslicked Maurice Harris..... a journeyman and farcry from Lewis.. he'd stand a chance??

Mike Tyson was:
a) more dangerous.
b) The much, much much bigger fight from both a legacy as well as money stand point.
c) ranked just as high, top3.

After that, he fought Vitali Klitschko who again, is a much bigger threat than Byrd.

 

I still cannot believe many refuse to accept that reason Ike was so good, was he was so bad!

Take out the madness and Mr President was little/nothing.

The best contender through both reputation and ability than Lennox did not fight (as a pro) is easy to name, it was Riddick Bowe.
