Liked similar threads and thought I would do a variation on a theme.

Win or lose, what was some great corner work, game plans, or strategies...

In a loss, I thought Tony Tucker's corner vs Tyson was spot on at one point saying something to the effect of:

When he gets close, push him off don't grab him.

Tony couldn't but the many he beat Buster Douglas employed that to perfection.

Angelo Dundee ripping open Ali gloves against cooper. Illegal but great fast thinking.

I actually wondered about that one and almost considered it for the bad strategy/corner due to the illegality of it. ;)

The glove was split around the thumb where the stitching had come away the hoo hah bought no more than 30 seconds of time. The tale gets embroidered with each subsequent telling.
If you want to commend Dundee for this fight ,do so for him having smelling salts administered to Ali between rounds, they were banned in the UK .

Strategy wise - Tommy Loughran's bout with Primo Carnera was ingenious. Knowing he was outweighed by about 80 lbs. and knowing Carnera's penchant for laying on his opponent, Loughran greased his hair with the most foul-smelling hair tonic. Loughran later said he had some great photos of Carnera pulling away from a clinch while wincing at the smell from Loughran's hair. Too bad it wasn't enough to cop the verdict.

Mickey Duff and his work with Lloyd Honeyghan vs Donald Curry."You knew you were going to be hit sometime and you are still here now go back to being the Govna" Watching the fight you can see how intently Lloyd is listening to Duff. During the first 4 rounds it was an even fight and you got a sense that Honeyghan did not have full self belief that he could do it. Duff kept him on track.

Strategies you have to go straight to Futch's with Norton and Frazier vs (second stage) Ali.

I thought Dundee and SRL's strategy against Benitez was superb and Steward and Hearns borrowed and added to fight a near perfect fight against the same opponent.

Futch's strategy for Michael Spinks vs Dwight Braxton was also perfection.

Lasty for now i was extremely impressed by Holyfield's strategies against Mike Tyson. He virtually cancelled out his favoured mid range and punched back at times when many didn't.

How about Danny Garcia and his father Angel in the Matthysee fight. Danny boxed effectively off the backfoot using a jab and even outbrawled Lucas in the pocket when he choose his spots. No one thought it would play out like that, Danny was a 2:1 underdog and people thought he was a soft touch at 140 with a gimme win vs the chinny Khan. Danny turned out to be the stronger fighter but had to play it carefully early on against the power of Lucas. Mattysee was on a tear with 6 straight stoppage coming into that fight. People thought he would mow down Garcia. He showed real discipline vs Lucas and a tough chin. It wasn't a perfect performance by any means but the Garcia corner deserves credit.
