In my lifetime, James Toney, Juan Manuel Marquez and Floyd Mayweather. Archie Moore, Ray Robinson were frigging deadly back in the day.
Absolutely! It's important to point out that there are different types of counterpunchers. Holyfield and JMM are aggressive counterpunchers that would rely on timing and catching a guy as they punched where Toney and Mayweather were more catch and counter guys with the Philly shell. The last style is make you miss and make you pay like Ali and Pernell.

Some great shouts! Salvadore Sanchez in particular I thought was one of the very best. I'll throw Willie Pep & Marco Antonio Barrera in there.
Old timer shout out - Jack Johnson, of course. Have we dropped Jimmy Young’s name yet? Not too shabby.
Harold Johnson immediately comes to mind. While he may be thought of more as an aggressive boxer-puncher, Joe Louis was also a very good counterpuncher.
