Another guy not mentioned is Marciano. He is not given credit for it but the guy was a top notch counter puncher in there. The thing with Rocky was he did something the other counter punchers didn't--Rocky countered to the body. Beautiful to watch.

Gene Tunney seems very interesting from the short footage of him I managed to found. I'd love to see more. But for those who know him better than I do, how would you rank him in an all-time top10 heavyweights?

Outside of the top 20, for me....Perhaps top 30? but I am not certain. He had to small of a body of work at HW for me....I do rate him top 3 at LHW.

I understand it, but outside of top20 just because he doesn't have the average weight or body for a heavyweight seem like a pretty big reach for me. Patterson wasn't much of a heavyweight either, but most of the people rank him at least top15-20.

Patterson had a much longer body of work at HW. I rank Patterson in the 15-20 rang along w/ Walcott & Charles....H2H would be interesting, but i feel that Pattersons HW stint was more conclusive than gene's although you and/or others may disagree??? I can see anyway Gene cracks the top 20 based upon 2 wins over a faded dempsey (I don't mean to take anything away from Gene as I like him alot, perhaps more.)

Not sure what you mean by 'body of work', cause boxrec has both of them at 6'0" height, but Tunney has a 5" longer reach. However, I agree that Floyd fought more pure heavyweights than Gene, but I guess it's not that weird since they fought in 2 really different eras. For example, Sam Langford was 5'6" and weighed about 185 lbs in his prime.

Bingo. Anyone who questions Quarry's right to be in the discussion needs to rewatch his fights with Spencer, Mathis and Lyle...3 really solid HWs who Jerry Boy dominated.
