Boone Kirkman vs. Eddie Machen and vs. Doug Jones 1 and 2, 1967. I'm stranded here in the hinterlands of Seattle, Washington USA, so I don't have the experience of the quote-unquote "big-time" fights which some of you have attended. Just a loud and enthusiastic crowd in a pavilion with a relatively low ceiling. Kirkman's full nomme de guerre was "Boone 'Boom Boom' Kirkman." Fourteen thousand fans all yelling "Boom Boom" in unison. No other bull**** with lights, loud music and showy introductions, just the visceral sound of deep-voiced calls of "Boom Boom" resounding throughout the arena as he approached and crawled through the ring ropes. I get goose bumps just thinking about it.
