Japan: Fighting Harada, Yoko Gushiken, Hiroyuki Ebihara, Guts Ishimatsu, Masao Ohba, Shoji Oguma, Jiro Watanabe, Koichi Wajina, Shozo Saijo, Kuniaki Shibata, Hozumi Hasegawa, Hiroshi Kobayashi, Takeshi Fuji, Royal Kobayashi, etc.

Japan has a nice list of great, world class, and solid fighters.

Takao Sakurai was an excellent Bantamweight in the 60's that rarely gets mentioned these days. I for one thought the Aussie great Lionel Rose was lucky to get the decision in their title match, this coming right after Rose had won the title against Harada in dominant fashion. Sakurai boxed rings around the otherwise very mobile and cat-quick Rose, making him appear very leaden at times. He forced him to lead in with wide hooks and reaching shots that opened him up for counters and clever turns. Excellent technical matchup, and a very impressive performance from Sakurai. If you want to see great footwork and clever maneuvering, check that fight out.

The only connection I can think of is that Japan and Cuba both made the U.S. all stars look like a last place little league team in the WBC.

That, and Japanese and Cuban women are both :love
