As an aside, Dempsey in Nevada and Kid Blackie are cracking Dempseys books, obviously not bios in the usual sense in that they focus only on particular points in Dempseys life

Kid Blackie on his Colorado days just starting out, features interviews with some childhood aquaintances of Jack, the other, as its name suggests, focuses on his time in Nevada throughout his career and life, with some great info about his promotional work with Max Baer

It's really a matter of what you can get your hands on .. there have been over half a dozen through the years , a few from him direct ... I have a 1940 autobio by him that is terrific because of some of what he covers that is completely absent from his 1961 book and of course from his 1977, co-written with his step-daughter ... it's amazing to see the nuggets you can find in some of them that vanish over time ...

For beginners try to get Dempsey by his daughter for a more enchanted version and Roberts book which in true Roberts style is more of a sociological portrait of a man and his times , a terrific read ...
