Holyfield goes above Tyson, because he could get past the ref. Tyson was always getting called on stupid, blatant things. Holyfield was a masterfully dirty fighter. Mean but conscientious. Pedroza deserves a mention too. Lazarte is currently the mostly blatantly dirty championship fighter, in my opinion. He just doesn't give a rat's arse. The combo of very tiny and very dirty is a winner. I laugh when I see him fight. He's like a mean, vaguely autistic toddler.
What about the welter who apparently raped Armstrong with dirty tactics then was later beat by Sugar Ray Robinson? Zivic
He should definitely be seen as somebody worth listening to in this context. He once wrote an enpassioned defence of dirty fighting. When Zivic was asked who the greatest fighters of all time were, he named Jack Johnson, Jack Dempsey and Harry Greb, an suggested that their inteligent use of dirty tactics was key to this.
Zivic Greb Duran Hopkins Bazooka Limon Abraham Pedroza Gomez Holyfield Qawi Saddler Just off the top of my head. Actually Limon wasn't a "great" fighter but he was awfully filthy. Same reason I didn't put the very dirty Ricky Hatton on the list.
Ali and Marciano deserve a mention. Ali- Holding and neck cuffing. Marciano- Hitting after the bell and on breaks. I think Rocky was so focused on killing his opponent he wasn't conscience of his fouls.
I think Terry Norris has to be mentioned. Hitting his opponents while they're down and also his 2 straight losses to Santana by way of DQ. Although I'm not sure if that should be considered as dirty or just being stupid.
I think Ken Overlin was known for it, Aus' Fred Henneberry and Ted Kid Lewis if I remember right gave as good as he got. there must be a ton of them. Nel Tarleton too.
See, I've never quite understood what exactly makes one thing 'best dirty' and another thing 'worst dirty.' Is it the **** stains? I bet it's the **** stains...:think
