You can make a case for a few divisions being the best-welter, lightweight, and jr feather are probably the three most talented right now. You can also make a case for supermiddle which is my personal favorite right now. 147 and 135 are both declining but still have a lot of talent left. Jr middle may be the most improving division at the moment. A year ago it was a wasteland and now its getting interesting.
JMW is certainly improving but entirely dependent upon guys like Angulo, Kirkland and Martinez panning out.
Cruiserweight was getting interesting but it looks like it may have lost some steam. Haye and Bell have left the division and Mormeck doesn't seem to fight anymore. You have Adamek, Cunningham, and Jones then there seems to be a bit of a drop off.
I'd add Julio and Cintron to that mix as well. Match up any of those fighters any way you want and you get good matches.
Also Bernabe Concepcion is a good one, but still my favorite weight division is the Welterweight's alot of ecxiting things are happening right now in this division
Straw weight. WBA Champ Roman Gonzalez (22-0-0 (20)) IBO Champ Joyi (19-0-0 (15)) IBF Champ Raul Garcia (25-0-0 (15)) WBC Champ Sithsamerchai (29-0-0 (12)) Palacios (25-2-0 (20)) Shame none of these guys will not get the chance to fight each other as the money wouldn't be there. Shame HBO wouldn't put on champ vs. champ in a round robin, or even Showtime, like Gonzalez vs. Joyi and Sithsamerhcai vs. Garcia. It would create enough exposure that when the winners fought each other it could headline a Showtime show and would have enough interest. The sad thing is that these little guys would give us some awesome fights. No doubt the winner (IMO Gonzalez) would be prepared for a superfight with Calderon at LFW.
I would agree that Gonzalez looks something special, but the rest might just turn out to be the usual fly-by-night-come-and-go type champions. Its too early to tell how good most of them are because they are all recent champions. Even Gonzalez's resume looked pretty abysmal before he took out Niida in fine style. Plus two of the more established guys, Eagle and Niida, have recently announced their retirements, which hurts the divisions credibility. But don't worry about Gonzalez; he looks like he has the frame to move up one or two divisions. He looked fantastic beating Niida and I can see him being a dominating force in the lower weights for years to come:good
Sadly, the WW division cannibalized itself. Losses are just too damn tough to overcome in today's "0 or you're a nobody" boxing climate. Cintron, Williams, Quintana, and Judah all losing and leaving(at least temp.) are indicative of this. Before they all lost, the division looked INSANE. But shouldn't we have realized that one guy would have to lose anytime they faced each other?
