Atleast we get to look forward to seeing you in Gomez's corner soon eh mate. Looking forward to that one.
Ones that spring to mind have mostly been mentioned, Mutley Anderson, Mitchell Johannsen, Moore Macklin, Siddique Gethin, Froch Magee, Murray McAllister..... I'll have a look at my dvd's when I get home and add some more.
Ayers-Rigby is one of my faves, Michael is probably my favourite domestic boxer of recent times. Him versus Billy Schwer would have been fantastic, shame it never happened. Slightly different and off topic, but the best domestic KO I've ever seen - probably the best KO I've seen ever, in fact - was Alexander-Takaloo. That was insane.
Its very tough mate.... I spent years trying to convince myself I could beat it, but you can't. No matter how hard you train you can only improve your workload very minutely. Put it this way, I haven't sparred or trained at boxing for at least 8 weeks. I got in and sparred three rounds at the local am gym the other night with no major problems. When I trained I just massively improved my recovery rate. I would go from completely out of breath to normal in about 15 seconds. But the rate I got out of breath would increase each time I went to work. It would come and go though. I don't remember it affecting before my first pro fight or my first Am. It was most inhibiting in the Baz Carey fight. The Carl Allen fight was a bad one, Danny Thorpe, Anthony Hanna, Norman Dhalie. Even the Buckley fight..... I still managed 10 rounds twice. All heart.
It was asthma that played a major role in preventing my progression as a boxer. Just didn't have the lung capacity for it. I stick to the safe side of the ropes and do the coaching now instead. :yep Big kudos to you Jeff, I know how hard it is, yet you achieved a great deal considering the circumstances.
