What’s the best fight featuring both guys in their debuts? I mean 0-0 vs. 0-0.

I was thinking maybe Roberto Duran vs. Carlos Mendoza, but looked up and Mendoza — who went on to give Wilfredo Gomez hell in a title shot at 122 and beast Juan ‘Kid’ Mesa — was actually 1-0 at the time.

So are there any instances of guys who went on to both become world champs, or even title challengers or contenders (or one future champ and one future contender) who met right off the bat?

Not sure about champions etc. but this is the best debut vs debut fight I have seen + a special guest appearance by Orlando Canizales makes it worth watching as well

Pretty sure Michael Carbajals's debut opponent became a world champ. Will Grigsby won the IBF 108 title.

There aren't any I know of who were both 0-0.

In his pro debut, Riddick Bowe fought Lionel "Freight Train" Butler - who was fighting his second pro fight. Bowe would later become world heavyweight champion and Butler was later ranked as high as #2 by the WBC and fought Lennox Lewis in a title eliminator (which Butler lost).

In his pro debut, Bonecrusher Smith fought James Broad. Broad was 2-0. Smith later won the WBA heavyweight belt. Broad became a contender in the 1980s. Bonecrusher also fought future cruiserweight champ Ricky Parkey (who was 2-0) in Smiths' second pro fight.
