I forget that one was a draw - such a strange one. Wasn't it originally announced as a TKO defeat for both men?
Usually, when there is a draw, even if the fight was great, people tend to view it as a robbery and the excitement of the bout is kind of drowned out by all the angry comments. Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez I was a totally wild night. The way Marquez climbed back into that fight was amazing. Thomas Hearns vs. Ray Leonard II was totally wild. I was at a bar watching that on closed circuit, it was thrilling the entire time. But when the draw was announced, people were really angry. The night of Fury-Wilder I, again, another thriller. Again, people spend a lot of time complaining now. For some reason, when people mention draws, the night I always remember is in the summer of 1994 when Ray Mercer and Tommy Morrison fought on ESPN. They were supposed to be prepping for a big PPV card where Mercer fought Bruno and Morrison fought Hide for the WBO belt. Bob Arum put them in with two guys who he'd been throwing in as opponents with other prospects - Mercer got Marion Wilson (who was 7-9-2). Morrison got Ross Puritty (who had a record of 8-8). Puritty had been destroyed early by Cleveland Woods on his first Top Rank appearance and had been brought back regularly to lose. Same with Wilson. And then Mercer stepped in the ring ready to take care of business quick, and, instead, he appeared to get outpunched and lose to Wilson. The announcers couldn't believe what they were seeing. And when the decision was announced, it was a draw. No sooner had that ended, Morrison came out against Puritty, got floored twice, and he appeared to lose, too. Again, to the scorecards, and another draw. Neither fight was an all-timer, but just watching the "name" opponents get owned by novices was so great. And the two fights they were tuning up for got cancelled the day of the event, too. Fate was trying to tell them as early as that summer that Mercer-Bruno and Morrison-Hide wasn't happening. Arum just wouldn't listen.
I thought Pernell Whitaker was masterful in his draw with Julio Cesar Chavez. One of the best performances of his career.
Jermaine Taylor vs Winky Wright is my choice for number 1 .....I invited a house full of casual boxing fans to watch it on PPV. And nobody left disappointed....and it’s the most exciting fight of either guys career
The back to back to back Triology Oscar Negrete vs Joshua Franco ... 2 of the 3 were draws .. Great fights here guys
