Who came out with most credit when overmatched against WORLD CLASS opposition?

I'm thinking Chris Finnegan vs Bob Foster, or Tommy Farr vs Joe Louis.

Any other obvious examples I'm missing out? And puh-lease, no Lockett vs Pavlik

    Graham Earl vs Michael Katsidis?

I'm gonna think a bit out of the box and offer this one..okay it wasn't against a prime Junior Jones but Junior went on the fight Paul Ingle in a tight fight up and till his was stopped.

Junior Jones vs Richard ''Tiger'' Evatt. Evatt was just a domestic fighter who had a patchy record and never showed much form going into the fight...he ended up ahead on points and boxing the fight of his life till he was caught in the 11 and sadly was stopped. I felt it was a magnificent performance from someone being used as a warm up to bigger things.

Edit: I know this isn't the best but just wanted to give Evatt props because it was a fine display.

Someone mentioned this the other day but when Adrian Dodson lost to Winky he put in a sterling effort and there was no shame there

I agree about Evatt, fine display hadn't shown prior to that he was able to compete on that level.

My all time favorite would have to be the mentioned Tommy Farr fight but from recent times I think Graham Earl vs Katsidis was such an epic display of heart, action and total carnage that it is my pick.

This should be a good thread.

Both close decisions away from home to great fighters.

    Pat Cowdell- Salvador Sanchez
    Alan Rudkin - Lionel Rose

Ricky Hatton was winning by "a country mile" against Manny Pacquiao before being stopped.

Apart from that I'd say Randy Turpin against Sugar Ray Robinson in their second fight.

  14. Michael Watson v Mike McCallum.

A fine effort until he was stopped.
