The days of Errol Christie, Rod Douglas, Michael Watson, Herol Graham, Chris Eubank and Nigel Benn - the 'big-six' - were super-special. You also had Colin McMillan, Lennox Lewis, Herbie Hide, Naseem Hamed and Eamonn Loughran coming up, as well as Barry McGuigan and Paul Hodkinson and Dave McAuley, and soon Steve Collins and Joe Calzaghe, and Frank Bruno and Gary Mason. Unbelievable. Tony Collins, Gary Stretch...the list goes on. Chris Pyatt, Crawford Ashley...
I suspect most people think 'their era' is the best. I certainly do, and 'my era' was 1980 to the end of the century.
No comparison today. There's Froch I suppose... Haye fights every couple of years, Khan keeps losing, Cleverley fights nobody, that's about it. Groves, Eubank Jr and DeGale all still vastly unproven.
I was born 86 obviously iv seen all the classics and study endlessly the old fighters of the past but i suppose theres nothing like being there at that moment in time im kinda jelous! But when i talk about this era i dont mean the past 5 years or so i mean from now for the next few years. another thing that sperates the 'ocasion' of a big fight now is the tv deals either box office or normal sky instead of the 1980s ITV which everyone had access to my nanna talks about getting the family around the box for the big fights and its just not like that anymore But one thing we csn say is there is some exciting times ahead
:deal Khan is a KO waiting to happen, and Cleverly is about to get smashed by the K-Train. I am, however, excited by Frampton.
