Only In America with Ving Rhames portraying Don King is a good watch. "I wash my hands before I take a ****!" is the most epic line in any boxing film. My favorite since childhood which has it all is ROCKY III.

The greatest boxing film of all time hasn't been made yet!

When it finaly is, it will be an absolutely brutal biopic about Jack Johnson.

A great movie in real time is the'" Set UP" , a club fighter refuses to take a diveand suffers consequences, highly regarded by movie buffs with great ahead of it's time fight sequences.

As I always say, The Harder They Fall is the best..not only for it's analogy to Primo Carnera and of course Bogart and rod Stieger, but for the parts that Max baer and Jersey Joe Walcott played. That scene where Bogart tell JJW to deck the giant is the single most realistic punch thrown in any boxing picture. That's the knock I have in all boxing pictures..the unrealistic fight scenes...they remind me of professional wrestling most of the time. Overexaggerated blows always seem to land.

It's very dicey, rc, too choreographed -- too broad-- fight fans don't buy it (even though the general audience does) Err on the side of realism 'n actors get hurt.

Remember when they were rehearsing the fight scenes at Stillman's Gym for SOMEBODY UP THERE LIKES ME. Tony Zale -- still in great shape -- was hired to play himself. He was fired after the first day. Couldn't pull his punches. Broke Paul Newman's ribs, and had to be replaced by a stuntman.

I remember the picture by Budd Schulberg. In the role of the fighter that Primo Carnera kos in the film was Pat Comiskey, one time sensational
prospect ,who plays the part of Ernie Schaaf of New Jersey, who actually died in the ring, after Primo Carnera stopped him. The crowd booed the knockout, but it was no fake ending as poor Schaaf died in the ring.
The Harder They Fall movie was based losely on the career of Primo Carnera...

Wow...and Newman was probably glad as hell to see Zale go, even if it was an experiment in "method acting".
