His entrance against Botha was another. That little jig he does, eyes full of fire. He scares the **** out of me anyway
I always laugh when I see naz being talked about nowadays, cos the majority of young posters just see his showmanship on youtube, get all goosepimply & actually forget to look at the guy for his boxing ability alone. Nowadays all I see is 'Naz was the best' just cos of those silly entrances that he stole from Eubank, when Hameds record in no way stands up to close scrutiny. Did hamed win belts? Yes. Did hamed win life & death struggles with shot fighters? Yes. Did Hamed get owned when he stepped up to elite level? Yes. Did Hamed take an easy fight to go out on a high afterwards against a spaniard? Yes. But hey, his big mouth & big ring enterances were great to watch, therefore he must be a legend on these shores, yes? NO. For the reasons I stated above.
I hope your not aiming that at me! Naz is a 'legend' though on these shores, his bravado is partly the reason. Carl Thompson is a 'legend' on these shores for his excitement and heart. Although I guess it is how you define a legend, but for me he is - plus I think he is in the top 10 UK fighters of all time.
Naz's resume stands up to most modern day British fighters. Bar Lewis i'm struggling to come up with another....poss Calzaghe Do you HONESTLY believe Naz wasn't a legend? If not,who is?
This is one of those rare occasions when i actually agree with Dunky's analysis. Im a huge fan of Naz but the only top opposition who was somewere near they're peak that he fought was Barerra and he lost comfortably. As with all British fighters it was a total stage managed career because he was such a huge money maker for SKY and HBO. And before all you Lennox Lewis fans get over excited, this guys career can be picked apart too, this was a guy that got beat by 2 of the absolute worst belt holders in heavyweight history, he was a guy that never faced any elite fighters who were near they're peak, Tyson was shot, Holyfield was old and weathered and i'll never consider Vitali an elite fighter. Manny Steward rebuilt him after the McCall defeat to take the center ring, use his physical attributes and jab the heads off his opponents, it was a smart strategy knowing the Lewis had no chin and no stomach for a proper fight. He was flat footed, usually gassed after 6 or 7 rounds even though he hardly worked and im expected to believe he could beat Ali or Holmes over 15, people are having a laugh .. As for Calzaghe, his career was stage managed more than Naz's. He stays in a stepping stone division like Super Middle fighting complete bums in Cardiff for most of his career only getting brave enough to go to the states when Jones is finished and Hopkins is so old he can only work for a minute of every round .... Even though i agree with Dunky on Naz, i always have to take his comments with a pinch of salt having read some of his ludicrous statements on very average Scottish fighters of the past, mainly Scott Harrison and Alex Arthur. Dunky used to talk about these 2 guys like they were on a par with Sugar Ray Robinson when in fact they were both very average domestic level fighters who make Naz, Calzaghe and Lewis look like the greatest of all time ..
If anyone has Lennox Lewis vs Hasim Rahman II entrance..! It is one of the greatest entrances of all-time, Lennox Lewis came into the ring to.. "James Brown The Big Pay back" Not his normal, Bob Marley..! Lennox Lewis was one bad mofo that night...
I wasn't saying Naz is an ATG but in British history he Lewis and JC,will be remembered as modern day legends. Surely there's no disputing that?
This is despite me admitting when Scotty was active & holding a version of the world title that he would never have beaten Manny Pac... Me comparing Scotty Harrison to Sugar Ray Robinsonatsch- I dont know if I should laugh at your post or cry!!! As for Alex Arthur, just cos I think he could have beaten a weight drained Guzman, does that automatically make him comparable to Sugar Ray Robinson either??? Man, I love the **** people make up about me here just cos I love scottish fighters, its the stuff of legend
