By this,I'm not including guys like Lennox Lewis,Frank Bruno,Nigel Benn,Chris Eubank etc who were British with West Indian ancestry. I'm talking about West Indian, period. The best one, imo, was Mike McCallum, certainly in my lifetime. There have been others such as Barbados Joe Walcott, who inspired a certain Arnold Cream ! Views please, people.
Barbados Joe Walcott if he counts. Born in Guyana. Or Griffith. I'm not too clued up on the West Indies, I have no idea if these countries even count.
Guyana counts...not sure about the Virgin Islands. But they are the 3 that came to mind for me...Walcott, Griffith and McCallum that is. Ill give Yolande Pompey a shout..even though he is far from the best..beat a faded Randy Turpin, a prime Dave Sands, and Durelle, plus others...Forced Archie Moore to come from behind to stop him for the light heavy strap. I knew his name, didnt realize he was from those parts though.
basicly should we just say english speaking carribean plus guyana? no order clearly barbados joe walcott emile griffith julian jackson mike mccallum simon brown yolande pompey vivian harris bunny johnson wayne braithwaite o'neil bell livingstone bramble

Well, I checked out the definition of West Indies and it's split based upon who attempted to colonize them. For Britain we've got, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, British Guiana (now known as Guyana), British Honduras (now known as Belize), Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica (with the Turks and Ciacos Islands & Cayman Islands), Monserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, the Windward Islands and the Leeward Islands. This is where it's at in terms of the British West Indies. Here's who I've found based off that definition that I can consider good to an extent (if not great) off that infamous site a portion of us loathe for some reason (if you know how to sort out the crap...no problem...right?): - Yama Bahama (Bimini, Bahamas) - Barbados Joe Walcott (Demarara, British Guiana) - Panama Joe Gans (Barbados, British West Indies) - Mike McCallum (Kingston, Jamaica) - Simon Brown (Clarendon, Jamaica) - Bunny Grant (Kingston, Jamaica) - O'Neil Bell (Jamaica) *not sure of hometown - Livingstone Bramble (St. Croix, Virgin Islands) - Yolande Pompey (Princes Town, Trinidad And Tobago) Out of that group I'd pick Barbados Joe Walcott... I'm also obviously only running off of what comes up on boxrec, so there's gonna be gaps.
Panama Joe Gans...thats a good one. I remember his name was deceiving because his actual name was Cyril...something British sounding.
yeah i was checking 'the site' and came to the conclusion that they dont always rate the guy in the same country. they are missing alot of guys who where born in certain countrys but fought for another ala ruddock. but i have no quams with putting devillish joe walcott or mike mccallum on top
