Not on topic but I'm slightly confused, Duran in one of his fights at Welterweight weighed in at 149.5 pounds. That's 2.5 pounds over the limit??? Why was the fight still at Welterweight?

the zeferino gonzalez fight? i had to boxrec it, so i don't know the exact circumstances but the opponent weighed the same so i guess the agreement was for <150lbs.

it would be classed as a ww fight for rankings sake, it was non title and both would have been considered ww's at the time.

I never knew Duran went up to Super Welterweight in his second fight after vacating his Lightweight titles. It seems as though Duran had a habit of coming in heavy for his fights, it's not a new phenomenon.

So can anyone make an argument that there is a BETTER example than Duran-Leonard I?

Of course there are other examples that fit, or are close to fitting the bill, but, to my eye, not at the same level as Duran and Leonard meeting at the time they did.

i'm not sure what you mean by better. if you want the fight between 2 guys that rank the highest on atg lists and were more or less prime physically then montreal is the obvious choice.

I could make the argument that it was a ww fight and duran was a decade long lightweight while some of the other suggestions had both fighters at their most successful weights.
