Best examples of a boxer using a great jab?

Best jabs I've ever seen have come from Ali and Liston. When Sonny fought Eddie Machen, his jab was probably the most powerful in the HW division ever. When Ali fought Liston or Doug Jones for that matter Ali's jab was so fast and accurate that it would cut the eye open so quick that Doug Jones didn't know whether he was bleesding or sweating.

dude the best defense in boxing is the jab. Without it you're always subject to getting seriously touched up. Ask Pacman!

Good vid. Buchanan was so good he frustrated the hell out of a prime Duran. He was slicker than people give him credit for too. I wish there was more footage from him as I would love to study him.

  5. of **** i forgot OSCAR his jab was powerfull like a right hand he could dominate and punish with that jab , Holmes Oscar Ali are the top 3 guys that come to mind , and i see people disputing over mayweathers jab , he doesnt use it to much but when he does its executed to perfection and he used it much more at superfeather than at welter...

Fighters without great jabs can have effective defence (Toney, Jones Jr, Hopkins etc), fighters with great jabs can often have penetrable defences (Cotto, Froch, Kessler, Morales etc).

The best defence is... a great defence, not necessarily a great jab. And generalizing is always silly.

You've never boxed a day in your life. This comes from Eddie Futch, Angelo Dundee, Eddie Mustafa. There is no trainer at the local Y who wouldn't preach this. Hey dude, why do try and follow boxing?

Is it maybe something that gives you self-esteem to follow? why don't you actually try it? Just spend $75.00 for a qualified trainer for an hour and I guarantee , not only will you look at the sport much differently but you might feel better about yourself!

 Why does it anger you that the jab is not my own personal favourite facet of a boxer's game?!

I acknowledge the importance of it in my opening post, but it simply doesn't excite me the way a great combination-puncher or a great defensive artist does. Why does that bother you???

A great jab is an effective means of defence, but it obviously isn't the best defence there is - how can a fighter with a great jab but bad reflexes and a weak guard be considered a better defensive fighter than James Toney or Bernard Hopkins, guys who don't rely on a jab but are bona fide defensive virtuosos?

I get the impression you are a 15 year old who has recently watched Legendary Nights or some ****. Boxing is a lot more complex than a quotation from Angelo Dundee, 'kid'.

Interesting insight. Because ODLH did have a hellava jab particularly at 130lbs. We all think of Oscars hook but he had the deadliest jab of his era in at least 3 weight classes!

Your anger over this is genuinely bizarre! :fire You need to calm the **** down. Not everyone thinks of boxing the exact same way as you, if you freak out every time someone has different tastes to you, you'll soon burst a blood vessel and die.

I produced examples to back up my argument that a jab is not the best defence there is, and you responded with a weird, personal outburst. I think it's clear who doesn't know boxing here. :deal

Dude because you don't box. You're probably a David Haye fan. I love the sport and the fundamental skill sets that make the sweet science the beautiful art that it is. But my man you really have never experienced it. I think that's a shame. Because it just seems like you miss all the most beautiful parts of the sport! if you actually would try and box you'd understand a lot more of the game. basic things about the sport wouldn't be a mystery. I guarantee you dude if your standing in a room full of kids at the sugar ray Youth foundation and you made that comment about the jab, those kids would think you're "a Soccer Mom"! Because they actually study the sport from the hands on perspective!

:deal He literaly jabbed him out. The jabs were so stiff and brutal the ref stopped it.

For me nobody in the world had a better jab than Ike Quartey

You are the queerest creature I've met on here in a long time. Never before have I seen anyone get so hot and bothered over someone saying the jab is not their number 1 concern with boxing.

You have, for about the 3rd time now, ducked my mention of examples to support my view that a great jab is not the best defence there is, because some great defensive fighters have not relied primarily on the jab.

But if all you have is dull insults with no knowledge to back it up, I suppose there's not much else to say.
