The question wasn't about physical fitness, it was exercises to strengthen the core. Deadlift and squats are by far the most effective for strength.

If somebody asks a question about weight training or strengthening whatever and I can help I'll give whatever info I can, whether it relates to boxing or not.

I agree with you, but on this occasion the question was about strength and it was answered accordingly.

I wonder whether they should make up a sub-forum within the 'Training' bit, dedicated to lifting. That'd leave this free to focus on boxing.

I know and like I said I wasn't attacking you. It wasn't the wrong answer, it was the question that bothered me. It's always strength, sometimes this looks like a weight lifting board. What the hell is "tightening up the abs" anyway.

No I'm not. Just offering a different perspective. I did answer his question first. There are more ways to strengthen the core, and some have an added bonus that they do more than just adding strength.

Surely it depends on what you want from the exercise.
If it is ,say,to better withstand a shot to the liver or solar plexus a good barbell exercise would be good mornings.
If you want to your lower back muscles-the spinal erectors- to contract powerfully ,in a standing erect position ,you can try back extensions, with a barbell on your shoulders.Zercher back squats are also quite good for this purpose.

    Why?

    Deadlift is a lot better.

Zercher squat and back squat are two different things...

    Why do good mornings?

Well ,wouldn't enormous stress be placed on the internal abdominals, when stabilising the wieght at the bottom part of the movement? They would act as a sort of corset to protect from a punch.

I meant zercher good mornings.Sorry typo.I should read through my posts before submitting...:patsch
