My list: Willie Pep Azumah Nelson Salvador Sanchez Sandy Sadler Marco Antonio Barrera Eusabio Pedroza Naseem Hamed Eric Morales Barry McGuigan Abe Attell Kid Chocolate Wilfredo Gomez Manny Pacquiao Thoughts?
Henry Armstrong Willie Pep Salvador Sanchez Sandy Saddler Jim Driscoll Terry McGovern Kid Chocolate Eusebio Peradoza Abe Attel Morales/Barrera
Glaring omitions from my list. These guys would defo be up there amongst the toppermost. :good
Saddler Pep one of the loses to Saddler he was ahead but hurt his arm bad... Kilbane before Atteil in that he beat him for the title.....both held the title for some 12 years a piece, but more of Attels were questionable. now that would be a good fight both at prime. Armstrong I tend to go with one and only Champions of the world...in ratings... any four belt man is that today. But splinter Champs no matter who, like Druan for example is just a splinter champ, in spite of being thought the best of his weight...IMO of course.
Current List: 1. Willie Pep 2. Henry Armstrong 3. Sandly Saddler 4. Salvador Sanchez 5. Kid Chocolate 6. Eusebio Pedroza 7. George Dixon 8. Freddie Miller 9. Alexis Arguello 10. Jim Driscoll
Cant see Joey Archibald ,apart from a couple of wins over Mike Belloise he lost to every top man he met.
Pep Saddler Attell Sanchez Driscoll Armstrong Chocolate Pedroza Arguello Dundee McGovern Kilbane Dixon Barrera Morales Saldivar No particular order to this, although my top 4 includes Pep, Saddler, Attell, and Sanchez
Not sure McGuigan deserves a mention. He beat a past his prime, Pedroza, and lost to the unknown Steve Cruz. He only defended his title a couple of times in between.
I would put vicente saldivar in my top 10 and I believe Pedroza should be top 5 based on longevity aka larry holmes.
George Dixon Abe Attell Johnny Kilbane Johnny Dundee Battling Battalino Freddie Miller Willie Pep Sandy Saddler Vicente Saldivar Salvador Sanchez Honorable mention: Baby Arizmendi Marco Antonio Barrera Benny Bass Kid Chocolate Jim Driscoll Jeff Fenech Wilfredo Gomez Young Griffo Azumah Nelson Eusebio Pedroza Note: I rate McGovern, Jeffra and Jofre at 118 I rate Canzi, Armstrong and Arguello at 135
My list changes every few weeks - this is how I have them this month 1 Willie Pep 2 Sandy Saddler 3 Kid Chocolate 4 Abe Attell 5 Johnny Kilbane 6 Louis (Kid) Kaplan 7 Terry McGovern 8 Freddie Miller 9 Benny Bass 10 Salvador Sanchez If I'm missing your favorite guy I might rate him in a different division and I don't know where to put current fighters - they aren't done yet so I leave em' in the oven :happy
Sanchez was sadly not round long enough to justify a top 5 placing IMO. A significant proportion of the rating of Sanchez is done on what could of been and that can lead to a slap in the face to all the superb fighters who actually delivered thoughout a long career.
