Am I the only one who thinks that Arguello-Pryor I is a little, erm…(I'm going to have to say it), overrated? (Runs for cover).

Don't get me wrong - it is a great fight. And I accept that someone who was not around at the time and already knew the famous result in advance of first seeing it, my view could be slightly warped. But I've always felt it was a little too one-sided to be up there with the very, very best fights of all time. Arguello fought very courageously and gave Pryor plenty of problems, but to me it's never really looked like a fight that was in the balance or that Pryor ever lost control of. I think Pryor deserved to be a solid four rounds or so up going in to the fourteenth and though Arguello landed that beautiful straight right in the thirteenth, he never looked as if he could get Pryor out of there.

Arguello was such a great name and popular fighter, and the suspicions around Panama Lewis still resonates, that it of course was going to command more attention and more memory than other fights of the era, and it does deserve that. But as a pure fight, I think there were better and more thrilling, unbelievable contests from that era which outstrip it, albeit they featured lesser names. And Limon-Chacon IV definitely belongs to that group.

Nope, totally agree, and don't understand what all the fuss is about with that one. Good action fight, but that's all it is. Far too one-sided to be a truly great fight.

But then again I also think Duran-Leonard I is an overrated fight. More a wrestling match than anything.

It's funny, but I've never seen Arguello-Pryor 1 as a particularly one sided fight. After rounds 12 and 13 I thought Pryor had taken everything Arguello had to give and so it proved but before that, I thought it pretty even.

But the skill level has always edged it above Chacon-Limon for me. Gomez-Pintor was quality all the way too but had a few more breathers (relatively).

I actually love fights with shifts in momentum because of the drama it creates so from that point of view I can see why Gomez-Pintor but particularly Chacon-Limon might edge Arguello-Pryor.

    So, I'll say this:
    -Overall quality: Arguello-Pryor
    -Drama and momentum shifts: Chacon-Limon
-Favourite round of all three fights: Gomez-Pintor (round 12)

Prior Arguello. Just watch Arguello's legs when he delivers the right in that fight; we're talking maximum leverage. Those punches were better than any two of Prior's put together, easily.

If I was ever going to accuse anyone of cocaine use, it would be Prior on that fight, not just because of the highly suspicious between rounds incident, nor his whirling dervish erraticisms, but because it's hard to imagine even a heavier opponent like Hearns taking those shots and coming right back. I could be wrong, and I love that fight to much to argue this point...

All great fights. All inside my personal all-time top 10. I can see some maybe holding Pryor-Arguello with something of an * because of Pryor’s cheating but I still think the action is as good as it gets. I have that as the greatest but the other two are special too. No wrong answer.
