I don't remember any hype there, Klitschko took the fight on short notice and it turned out to be a great fight.

Maybe it was just me. I was damn hyped for that fight.

Me too. Most people expected to see Klitschko blown out of there within the first or second round but it was the fact that Klitschko stayed there and nearly won it that made this fight great and worth a rematch.

A lot of good choices here, but the consummate example is Ali-Frazier I.Two undefeated champions, and a brutal slugfest that exceeded the hype.

I can't really remember how much hype was involved but Jones/Tarver I had to have lived up to any hype or probably exceeded it. Just the fact that Jones was finally being tested made it a better fight than expected.

Was there really a lot of hype for Gatti-Ward, though?

I didn't think there was. Though my knowledge outside the HW ranks is always a bit weak.

Best fight of the 90s, IMO.

Of the fights ive seen as they happened id go with DLH-Vargas they were both big names and Champions with big wins and dislike for each other **** Vargas hated DLH. It was built as Bad Blood many people thought Vargas might be to big and powerful for Oscar and wear him down with that lefthook to the body and many thought Oscar was to fast and experienced. It turned out to be a back and forth action fight almost every round was a different guy got the momentum going his way with Vargas putting the pressure and getting Oscar near the ropes and using his strength and powerful punches then you had Oscar sticking out his stiff left jab and combination punching. Then it all ended in a brutal and dramatic 11th round TKO for Mr.Golden Boy as Jim Lampley creamed his pants.

It has to be Morales-Barrera III, the hype surrounding that fight was huge because of the previous 2 fights, and it was the best one of the 3.
