Here are some candidates: Tyson V Holyfield in 1991 Bowe V Lewis Tyson V Lewis in mid 90's Holyfield V Lewis in the early 1990's ( would of happened if holy hadn't lost to moorer in 94) Bowe Vs Tyson Quartey V Tito Tito V Pea in mid 1990's Tito V Norris sweet Pea V Norris Jackson V Toney Jackson V Nigel Benn Dlh V Tszyu Jones Jr V dariuz michalzweski Jones V Mccllelan Mosley V Mayweather Mosley V Tszyu My choice would be Tyson V holyfield in 1991. i was gutted when that fight was called off. i also remember being fired up for tito v norris and gutted when that never happened. tito quartey was a fight that i prayed to see happen
you have got to give dlh credit for giving us nearly all the great fights that he could of given us was it true that he going to fight norris before mullins beat him
Nice thread. I'd say the 15 I'd anticipate most (pretty subjective list) would be: 1. Whitaker vs. Trinidad 1995 2. Whitaker vs. Quartey 1996 3. Jones vs. Michelczewski 1999 4. Mosley vs. Tszyu 1999 5. De la Hoya vs. Tszyu 1997 6. Lopez vs. Johnson 1996 7. Lewis vs. Bowe 1995 8. Norris vs. Vasquez 1993 9. Mosley vs. Johnston 1998 10. Trinidad vs. Quartey 1997 11. Bowe vs. Tyson 1991 12. Johnson vs. Tapia 1997 13. Lopez vs. Arbachakov 1994 14. Hamed vs. Norwood 1998 15. Arbachakov vs. Gonzalez 1993
Ideally, Whitaker vs. Chavez would have occured a couple years earlier too, around 1991 at 140. Well, ideally it happens 1989 at 135, but I mean, keeping it in the context of the 1990's, 1991 would have been nice. I suppose Whitaker vs. Taylor would have been good before Chavez got to him as well, around 1990.
Yeah I believe there were talks of the fight happening if Norris beat Mullings. And I agree with giving DLH credit for fighting lots of big fights, but he ducked some rematches he should have taken, namely against Pea and Bazooka.
if you give de la hoya beef for not giving rematches, i hope your all over larry holmes case for never giving rematches in close controversial fights
He didn't give one guy a rematch, but I haven't exactly read a lot about Witherspoon pleading for a rematch either. It's sort of natural to blame the ATG for no rematch, but it's not like they can give everyone rematches.
morrison vs bowe lewis vs bowe taylor vs chavez ibeabuchi vs lewis '99 benn vs jones foreman vs holmes for sentimental value tyson vs tua/morrison/moorer/bowe/foreman/ibeabuchi/byrd/mercer
morrison vs bowe lewis vs bowe taylor vs whitaker ibeabuchi vs lewis '99 benn vs jones foreman vs holmes for sentimental value tyson vs tua/morrison/moorer/bowe/foreman/ibeabuchi/byrd/mercer
All these and i'll add; Benn v Toney + Nunn '91-'93 Eubank v Toney + Nunn '91-'93 Jones v Michalczewki
When he had some close calls fighting Witherspoon and Williams,he didn't even bother to give them a rematch. But when the shoe was on the other foot(Holmes vs Spinks I),he would move heaven and earth to get a rematch.
Without a doubt it's lewis v bowe. I actually think lewis would have lost to that version of bowe. They'd rematch around 96 with lewis taking a points win then a rubber round about 00 when lewis was securing his legacy. The irony is it probably would have been better for lewis to lose than as he'd have sured up his defence earlier and losing to bowe is better than losing to oliver. Closely followed by tyson v bowe in 96. Next is pea v tito and ike in 95-96.
Tyson-Holyfield '91 does it for me. Thee potential Superfight for the ages. Followed by Bowe-Lewis and of course all the Middleweight madness with Jones, Toney, Benn, Eubank, Nunn, Hopkins, McCallum, Jackson, McClellan, Norris and the Welterweight wars that could have been between Whitaker, Quartey, Trinidad, DeLaHoya, Mosley, Tszyu and Jose Luis Lopez. And a few more that weren't mentioned: Hamed-Marquez McCallum-Jackson II Jackson-Norris II
