Carpentier was a champion with great skills, versatility, footwork, speed, and good power. He was world champion at light heavyweight but also did well in other divisions. If we're talking about him at 175 pounds I think his characteristics would have beaten a great warrior like Matthew Saad Mohammed and that he would have been a tough opponent for a very good southpaw like Tarver. I wouldn't have seen him as a favorite against the best in the division, Charles, Moore, Foster, and others, but he would certainly have been a tough opponent for them too.
