6’7 glass cannon that was arguably the best heavyweight in the world at some point. Who’s the best man in history he beats?
He beat him his name was Sam Langford. But for the modernists he beats Usyk, Fury and AJ fairly easy. Fulton is the closest thing boxing had to Liston and Foreman before Liston and Foreman.
Where are you getting the "glass" part from. Gastanaga was a glass cannon. What did Fulton do to deserve that moniker?
Never have seen Fulton in action, but you've got to be kidding with this... No way to be sure, but my guess is he probably doesn't look a whole lot different than Willard. Maybe like Buddy Baer at the absolute best.
So what you're telling me is Francis Ngannou and Wilder can crack Fury. But Fred Fulton can't? Fulton and Buddy Baer live in a different galaxy then Jess Willard.
Haven't seen Mr. Fulton in action, but I strongly suspect that he's way closer to Willard level than Usyk. Call it a hunch.
He arguably beat a declining version of the greatest fighter who ever lived. Outside that it is hard to say. He was the standout contender for a long time, and he is a bit of a George Godfrey/Cleveland Williams figure. He gets raver reports from his contemporaries, that his record does not clarify to be realistic. It might even turn out that he was a Ken Norton style foil for Ali or Holes. Realistically though? Willard certainly owed him a shot.
Look what Langford did to Anderson right after that? 1917 Langford destroys your average superheavy with impunity.
