You can't have McGovern burt...unless you where born in johnstown pa. He was born here...I claim him.
He fought as a Brooklynite J, and I claim him because Terry is buried in Holy Cross Cemetary in Brooklyn ,a few blocks from where I resided growing up. Besides McGovern, never fought in Johnstown Pa. I win on points.:hi:
Billy Thompson, former British and European lightweight champion in the late 40's, was from the same little South Yorkshire mining town as me. He was an old friend of my grandad's too, lovely old bloke as we all knew him in his later years. And a good fighter. Bruce Woodcock and Iron Hague were both only a stone's throw away, coming from Doncaster and Mexborough respectively as they did. In fact, it was a descendant of Iron Hague (and a mate of my dad's) who first directed me toward good old Sam Langford - who beat Iron of course - when he found out I was interested in boxing as a teenager. And since I'm near enough to Sheffield I reckon I can claim the Wincobank/Ingle mafia as being on home territory too, though it's always been a matter of great distress and suffering to me that Naseem Hamed is a South Yorkshireman; well, as much a matter of distress as something can possibly be when the same region has previously contributed to the world William Hague, Jeremy Clarkson and the Chuckle Brothers. Ah well, at least grandad's family came from Merthyr Tydfil to give me dibs on Howard Winstone and Johnny Owen....
born in johnstown...when you look for "birthplace of Terry McGovern..." you find it is johnstown pa. He might have called Brooklyn his hometown..but he was born in Johnstown, so Johnstown is his home town. if I dont take him I have no one....so I take him :good
You made me weep. I give you special dispensation. You are now granted Terry Mc Govern. Peace be with you...
