hearns would keep him at bay and honest.
hearns had an atg jab and a great variety of punches. he was a great body puncher and gg would have
to pay way too much to enter into the hearns artillery and hagler was a more up and down fighter.

who also had problems with movers
compare jacobs and leonards movements and you will realize that probably hagler might not have struggled so badly vs jacobs as gg did.

The way in which Gennady handled Jacobs at the size he came in gives me more confidence that Golovkin could potentially upset Andre Ward in future.

So according to some on here Golovkin beats Fitzsimmons, Greb, Walker, Steele, Zale, Cerdan, Robinson, Monzon, Valdes, Hagler, Hopkins, Toney and Jones.
That's apart from dozens of others you could mention who you wouldn't bet your life he would beat.

Nah, but you never know how a guy would look against HOF level fighters if he never faced anyone close to one.

 

Another question might be:

"At middleweight who did Hagler, Monzon and Hopkins beat who was better than Golovkin?"

A few names might leap to mind but it's a short list.

 

I am not familiar enough with a few of those name to have an opinion and 2 of them I don't even know who they are (casual alert) but I don't see whats so controversial about picking him over Hopkins, for example? Also, a lot of older fighters would have been too small compared to modern middleweights.

Cecil, I think you might be guilty of thinking past greats are unbeatable by any moderns judging by this comment and the AJ/Ali thread. It is impossible for a boxer nowadays to compile the kind of resume the legends of the past could because of time between fights, politics etc but these discussions are head-to-head hypotheticals, not resume comparisons.

 

ggg's face looked like he had just been in a gentle sparring session, life and death indeed jacobs face on the other hand

 

Prime Hopkins would beat GGG, and the Jacobs fight was a good indicator of this, B-Hop does everything better from the tools Jacobs used effectively. Better lateral movement, better timing, better defence, better control of the range, better chin, better stamina.

I am equally certain that Jones Jr would take him to scool. I also give Martinez a 50/50 chance, but he was reckless at times and that is something you cannot afford against GGG.

GGG is a great fighter, but certainly not on par with the true legends of the division.
