Pre-plane-crash Pep could also jump 30 feet, lift cars with one hand and could speak 37 languages.

Memory is often playing tricks with us. I could have posted some clippings about pre-crash Pep, but there's really no point.

In my time probably Roy Jones.

Lost 3-4 rounds tops against great fighters in BHops and James Toney combined and dominated his opposition (whatever you think of them there was some good fighters amongst them) for nigh on a decade to an extent that I've yet to see anyone else approach.

Whitaker was still great but had lost a step when I started following boxing closely.I'd have love to have seen his absolute peak Lightweight years as at Welter he was still amazing.

Tyson brutalized the Heavies but his prime was relatively short and he was past his best by just 24.

Mayweather is possibly the most talented fighter I've seen (Jones was more athletically gifted) but has looked less than awe-inspiring on more than one occasion and was gifted a win against Castillo imo.Plus he's been inactive when he could've been cementing his legacy.

This boxing dweeb nonsense is wearin' thin. Get your head outta books. Go to a gym. Go to the fights. Show some CHOPS. Maybe your opinion'll count for something.

    Demeaning Willie Pep-- pathetic.

It's not boxing or Pep related. Study some psychology books, or just observe people a bit more, it's common trait that old memories are distorted, sometimes very much so.

    In 100% of cases?

If John's memory is distorted who is to say SRR isn't actually better than he remembers?

    ;)

Common = usual, happening pretty often.

Manner of distortion of old memories is such that good things from the past are usually exaggerated.

For example, here's some read from MSN Encarta:
    beginning
    continued

    Willie Pep, maybe.

    No, Roberto Duran.

Wilfredo Gomez looked perfect in his early days but his opposition at that time wasn't up to much.

    Pernell Whitaker.
